Snowwhite100's Journal, 09 July 2019

Today going away for a few days with no internet connection. My husband needs oxygen in the mountains, and had a high altitude test at the hospital, which was positive, that he has to have oxygen when in higher altitudes. No one told us he had to have a face-to-face with a doctor and authenticating paperwork within 30 days of the test sent to Medicare for them to pay for it. We received the large oxygen condenser from the oxygen company that one uses with a C-Pap machine at night. The small portable unit that one wears to go out, was on back-order so we had to cancel our vacation the first of June. By the time we got the portable unit (which does not work with C-Pap) and the oxygen company told us the requirements from Medicare, more than 30 days elapsed. When we went to the mountains two weeks ago to work we had the oxygen, but are being asked for more than $100.00 a month for the oxygen units. The test we took at the hospital here was $1500.00, and I can't trust that Medicare will pay for another test only 6 weeks later. Tomorrow we will go back up the mountain to see a doctor up there for an oxygen authentication test. Even with it, Medicare may or may not pay for the equipment we now have. Too bad neither the doctor, nor the oxygen company would have told us what we needed within the 30 day period. Speaking to the oxygen company, they said they don't deliver the equipment till it is cleared with the insurance company. Either the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, or they are “fudging” by going ahead and delivering it, putting people in a position of “having” to fork over the money themselves. Will be back in contact with all you wonderful people in a few days.

I know your pain and frustration. DME companies are not user friendly. I'm sorry.
