Snowwhite100's Journal, 27 January 2019

Yesterday we went to visit my sister in law (84), the most charming European you could hope to meet, who has bladder cancer metastasized to her lung and liver, and has been put on hospice recently. It was upsetting going since I love her, and hadn't seen her since before Christmas and we didn't know what to expect. Her husband (92) said she was on heavy pain medication and took 3 naps a day. It so hard to lose her "1", but "2" is the thought of her in pain, and will she suffer a lot? I was a wreck all morning but she was much better than we expected, was up and cheerful and looked good. You wouldn't know anything was wrong. On the phone ahead of time I offered to bring in take-out food, or do anything else but all was refused. Her husband, the gourmet cook let us know there would be no food, which was absolutely fine; he is getting old and we don't expect anything. It was a wonderful time together. She asked me how she got the cancer? I just said "living". She smokes, etc. but I did not want to put any guilt trip on. We drove nearly three hours to get there, bought a big orchid plant, lovely pastries, and candies on the way. I ate none of these things but had a piece of cheese on the way down about 1pm that I brought along, because I had been fasting 18 hours, and picked out an economical Asian Buffet near them for dinner because my husband likes these kinds of things. My husband did eat all these things plus cookies, didn't want to stop for dinner when we left after 5pm. He wanted to drive home, another 3 hours in traffic, saying he wasn't hungry. Whenever he isn't hungry, he's not willing to stop. You would think I would learn, wouldn't you. Today fasted 16 hours.
All we have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way. (Isaiah 53:6)

Hi. I am sorry you are losing your sister to cancer. It is difficult and sad to lose a loved one. I can say by experience as my sister passed two years ago of cancer (clanginoma).I was with her daily 24\7 for a year. I was afraid she would live and then pass in much pain. She was uncomfortable with some side pain as she lived that last year but it was easily managed with pain medication. She was pretty much happy and enjoying life. When the time came she was in zero pain and passed quickly and very peacefully completely pain free. I hope this gives you some comfort and peace. I was surprised and releived. God Bless you sister🌺

@Snowwhite100, I'm glad that you got to spend time with your dear sister-in-law and that she was well enough to enjoy your visit. It's never easy to face the passing of those we love.
