kingkeld's Journal, 09 May 2012

Good very early morning to all. It's 3:13AM. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get up and get my bike ride out of the way. It's not a bad "can't sleep", I just feel like I'm done sleeping. No point in staying in bed just to toss and turn and ruin wife's sleep. It's better to get up, get on the bike and get my exercise out of the way.

It's gonna be a rough one today though, the bike ride. I can tell that my legs are tired, and I might have to settle for only thirty minutes instead of the full hour that I prefer doing.

Yesterday, I had the day off from work to join wife going for a checkup at the hospital a few towns over. These are usually nice days, we get to spend the day doing things out of the ordinary, and do a little shopping. Yesterday was no exception, only we didn't really shop much. All we bought was a few things for Wife's crafts, and I bought a HUGE jar of jalapeños! Oh, how I love those things...

I was kinda dreading handling lunch yesterday - I was very determined to do right and stay within RDI, and combining this with going out has been somewhat a challenge for me lately, as some of my buddies know. However, I had no issues at all. I had breakfast at home, pre-planned dinner before we left, packed bottles of water and put a handful of sugar free snacks in my pocket. I had entered everything I knew I would like to eat into my food journal, so I knew exactly what kind of lunch I could have. I could spend up to 1000 calories on lunch, if I wanted to. I'm happy to report that I didn't!

We ended up at our "usual spot", a small cafe within walking distance from the hospital. Wife had a Devil Burger, a hot number with salsa and jalapeños, I opted for a chicken omelet. Plenty of protein to fill me up, plenty of food to satisfy, a nice fresh garden salad, along with fries that I didn't touch. It was great, a nice, satisfying lunch, and even more important - a lunch that made me happy the rest of the day because I knew I was on track and doing good.

This feeling is important to me, it's one that I try to recall when I want to break my rules. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing you passed the test and did good when it was so easy not to. When you chose a better meal or snack instead of something that would surely break the RDI bank.

I also managed to accomplish my exercise goal. I had originally planned one hour on the bike yesterday morning, but I had to cut it short or I would have been too delayed to make it on our train on time. So I cut it to 45 minutes, promising myself to walk extra when out. We did, and we enjoyed it.

I have set myself an "unofficial" goal of burning 3,000 calories per day according to the Fatsecret counter. It's a good measure, I think, and it'll keep me from falling into a slump. On a day where I essentially do nothing, my body will burn around 2,400 calories, so I'm trying to pick up an extra 600 daily. It doesn't really matter how I do it. I have days where I stand and walk a lot. I have days where I get it all done on the bike. My main thing is to do it.

Of course it doesn't always happen. There are days where I don't have the energy or will power, but most days I accomplish it. Just like I'm accomplishing it right now, on the bike. I just checked the timer. Thirty minutes are up. I don't see any reason to stop biking. Nice. I got the strength to go another another 30, I'd say.

So, about the weigh-in? As I write this, I have no idea what I weigh. I didn't want to make too much noise, didn't want to wake up wife, so I will weigh in a little later, when she's awake. I'll make a little edit and let you know how I'm doing on this. I feel lighter. I feel less bloated. I feel slimmer. I'm pretty sure I've lost some weight.

EDIT: I have weighed in. I am today at 80.7 kgs - so it's a good chunk down from Monday's 83.3 kgs. Now let's count on me doing good and getting below 80 before we know it. :)

I can easily tell the difference between the 83 kg weighing Monday morning and whatever weight I may be today. I'm definitely lighter. It'd be nice to be back in Blue Bar territory again, but I'm not sure I'm quite there just yet. We'll see. Wife gets up in about 45 minutes, then I'll know. I'll post the result when we've had breakfast, and Wife has left to go to work.

So what's in store today? Not a lot happening, really. Work of course. I have one interview, and then administrative work. I got plenty to do, so I think the day will go by quickly. I like that. Tonight, I'm pretty sure Wife wants to watch last night's episode of The Voice. I gotta say, I quite enjoy watching it too. There are some cool talents left, and I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing their performances. Are then finals on? I'm not sure if we're there yet, but it's gotta be soon.

Today, I'm thankful for:
- a great day out yesterday.
- feeling thin again. Oh, how I've missed this feeling the last few days. This is something that I will not let slip away from me.
- the strength to get my butt out of bed to exercise instead of staring at the ceiling (with the lights off) until the alarm goes off.
- that HUGE jar of jalapeños! :-)

HAPPY hump day, friends. Make it the best Wednesday in a while. Smile, dammit! Life IS good!

Ugh, jalepeños, can't do it... I just can't eat spicy food, my mouth turns into a big fire ball!! Great job on the healthy lunch and the meeting your workout goals! You and DK are such early risers and get those workouts out of the way in a hurry! :) I will be heading to bed here within a couple of hours and hope to wake up to a great Wednesday with your words echoing in my head... "Smile, dammit!" :)

Erika, I LOVE spicy goods. I just can't get it hot enough. I'm daily messing with the hottest peppers in the world! However, for a regular dinner, nothing beats the flavor of the pickled jalapenõs. I just love 'em. And yeah - how do you like that little mantra: "Smile, dammit!" :)

Good job king! I get up early sometimes, but stay in bed. Luckily with the exercise my sleep has been good. Good job staying away from chocolate lately too!

I'm allowing myself a tiny bit of chocolate today. I feel that I am in control. I've had it, I've moved on. Don't need more. :) Go me!

You inspire me every day (been away this last month, now back)... I got some info for ya. I was at my doctors (fairly natural doc), and he said Magnesium helps you sleep. Said I can work up to 1000 mg, but to watch out because it can loosen stools. LOL, well it does!!! So, if ya ever need that, take a few magnesium! I didn't get the runs till I took 1000, but it did help me sleep and it helps with other stuff as well ,... CHEERS, great work, workingout!!!!!!!! Have a great day!
