Research low carb high fat diets... majority of them have moderate protein, no sugar and you'll find you won't be eating processed foods. Atkins which is high fat and high protein and no carbs made my blood panels go off and my doctor said stop. There's a lot of guessing as some people can have dairy others say no dairy. I eat a small boiled potato occasionally especially when I'm carb craving. The no sugar is definitely a life changer. You start to notice you're taste changes and fruit is pleasantly sweet without anything, full fat plain yoghurt is actually great on strawberries. I used to have to use a lot of sugar and milk in cappuccinos and now they are delightful without anything. I've lost 9kg since August. Had a few week hiccup in between.

Am banting too! It's been 7 weeks now. I have had two weekends where I had red wine otherwise I haven't cheated at all. I keep carbs to below 25g a day and my fats and protein are calculated according to my weight and activity etc. Firstly let me say that's it's the first diet in my life that I have been able to actually stick to, am not exercising (because I hate it) and so far have dropped nearly 9kgs. I am never ever hungry and eat two meals a day. They are cooked meals which makes a big difference. I eat around 11:30am and then at about 6pm. Admittedly I am quite focused because I am so sick of being fat! You need to want it and you need to be committed. The thing that has surprised me the most about banting is my lack of cravings for sweet things and carbs. It's really weird! From what I can work out you need to find what works for you. I don't think it right for everyone I suppose and I know it's still early days for me but I have a sneaky suspicion that I might just manage to stick to this lifestyle for the long term. Nowadays when I see people eating hot chips, bread or donuts (all my previous favourites) I feel disgusted and sorry for those people 😂. I suppose it's similar to someone quitting smoking and feeling reformed. It's the most simplistic of diets however you do need to educate yourself. You also need to make sure you are prepared everyday and like I said - committed. The longer you do it the easier it becomes. Hotel buffets don't bother me in the least and the chip isle in stores is terribly boring to me. I am careful not to go too much on about as I know things can happen and I might fall off the wagon - it's just quite curious that I haven't at all. I suspect it's because banting makes those cravings disappear which means you can make more rational decisions with food choices. Good Luck everyone!

I have been banting since April this year, so six and a half months now. Before, the longest I could sustain a diet was three weeks. LCHF has definitely changed my life and my eating habits. My weight loss is slow, I have only lost about 13 kilos in the time that I have been banting but, rather slow and keep it off that too fast and it all comes back. I have also found that all my aches and pains (I have arthritis and am very prone to tendinitis) have greatly diminished and there are some who have commented that I am a lot less prone to mood swings ( who me, moody... never) than I used to be. I do supplement potassium, magnesium and fiber, as I find I cramp a lot during exercise and training, and the fiber relieves the constipation. Sauercraut and other fermented food is a daily ritual to keep the gut healthy as well. I have started adding intermittent fasting to the LCHF and it is really great. Dairy does seem to affect me negatively, so I have decided to reduce the amount I eat drastically. With any diet, or anything in life actually, it's all in the mind and before I even started the diet, I spent substantial time working on the mental aspect of the journey I was going to take. That really helped me, and on occasion, when I am tempted to eat something I really shouldn't, I go back to that for as long as I need to, until the mind is right again. Is Banting worth it, yes, definitely. Not just for weight loss, but for general health and well being too.

Best thing that ever happened to me. When I look at my before and after pics I can't believe it's the same person. No regrets and it's something you can sustain for the rest of your life. I've been at goal for quite some time and also incorporate intermittent fasting. Maintaining is not as easy as losing but with the correct mindset and determination it can be done.

At3yu24 Hi there. I would suggest first getting into ketosis before you try to do an intermittent fast. it is much easier to stick to it when your body is fat adapted. If you are still carb adapted, you will experience cravings which will make it a lot harder to stick out the fast period. Good luck xx

It is definitely worth it if you want to lose weight quickly but it not an easy diet to maintain afterwards. But I have thyroid problems and I do Banting because it actually helps moderate my thyroid levels and it has other benefits also. Don’t rush into no carbs and no sugars quickly or else you will start to feel sick, you need to slowly cut out things like first sugars for week or two and then cut out more! But once you doing Banting you will never do another type of diet again, I absolutely love it.
