JockoT's Journal, 03 October 2017

Today I weighed myself and I have hit the 16 stone. I desperately need to do something. I have been here before, weight increasing, and total loss of control. I wake up, full of good intentions, but as the day goes on I just keep feeling hungry and keep eating. I even wait until my wife goes off to bed then stuff my face before I follow her. I am eating secretly because she would be angry. I think I have an eating disorder, but what it is I have no idea. Nor what to do about it.

I would say to cut out the starchy carbs. They are bad for keeping you bloated and hungry. Try eating more fat & protein - try not having cereal for breakfast - I manage to work round it by not having breakfast. I find that the sooner I start eating in a day the more I 'need' food - especially carbs

Hey Jocko What has worked well before? Maybe keep a diary of what your triggers to overeating are? I've found using " decision all balance " useful when I've been stuck/ increasing.. google it maybe? Look how far you've come already!!! You can do it, just need a new behavioural plan Good luck 😁

" decision all balance " That sounds a good idea. Like Reasons to marry her v Reasons to dump her!

Lol - Jocko! You'll be ok. You know a high fat and protein diet suited you before. Just get back to it.

Damn you, autocorrect " decisional balance" I.e. List what will happen if things stay the same, or if you change things , helps you to see what's getting in the way and improves motivation, rather than relying on "willpower "😁

You've not renewed your vows long enough yet for those sort of decisions 🤣

Take a deep breath and just get back on it.

It’s hard. I was tempted to forget all this. But then I realised I want to live longer. I looked through lots of family pictures and all the older ones are much thinner. In my family you don’t get old if you are fat. Scary stuff! Good luck and reignite that fire!

Carbs are the culprit. Yesterday I cut down on the carbs and felt a lot better. I am going to give up on the baking. I have found I am good at it, but I cannot resist eating what I bake!

try low-carb-bakery :)

Viviace is right - there are lots of low carb baking recipes on the internet. Although you do still have to be careful with how many portions you eat. If that's a problem, maybe best not!

I have downloaded a recipe book, but when I look at the prices of the ingredients I would require to buy I am afraid there is no way I can afford low carb bakery. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Hang with it - we all have issues sometimes...but we persevere!

I would have thought that as skilled a baker as you are you could change some of your recipes to low carb - almond flour or coconut flour and butter makes a wonderful shortbread - you can add some sweetener - but I rarely do - perhaps some lemon juice or something. The main expensive thing I've bought is the 2 different flours and it's cheaper to buy almonds at an Asian supermarket and grind them to flour.

Thank you for being so honest 🦋 I promise myself to have a clean day of eating and I don't always know what triggers days of eating utter trash. But I don't always admit to people around how bad I've been. I find less temptations around the house or work helps me. I keep telling hubs off for bringing stuff into house that I'll trough my way through. Don't beat yourself up. Maybe miss a meal here or there for damage limitation. And Try not to snack between meals. So if you do eat rubbish choices tag it onto your meal rather than grazing through the day, evening and night. I find that if I'm craving things like chocolate then my experience has taught me to just get the chocolate not eat my way around every thing else, and end up consuming much much more. Good luck and don't give up🌈

I bought some of the low carb ingredients....you are right, Jocko, they are not cheap. But you don't need so much of one pack, so in the end it's not so much as feared. And the taste of homemade low carb bread ist great...try it 😊

I've never made bread, low carb or otherwise. My local Lidl sells low GI loaves. We buy one when we have soup made.
