Katrina121's Journal, 04 September 2017

Well, it is now 11:46 pm on Sept. 4, 2017
I am once again fighting the battle, a battle that I have stuggled with my entire life. This time it's much harder due to major medical roadblocks.
I had a liver transplant in June of 2013 and my weight went down to 141 lbs. Not a good way to lose weight! I felt so good and much healthier than I had for a very long time until the beginning of July when I found I had a perferated bowl and hernia so back to surgery I went and had mesh put in to hold me together. I was told then that it was a common event after transplant. Thanks alot! LOL Then all was well until January of 2014 when I had a rejection event. I was put on low dose prednisone and my weight began to slowly climb and continued no matter what I ate! With the weight gain came an increase in insulin and full blown diabetes and the weight continued to pile on. Then all was relatively quiet, I was able to increase my activities and stabalized the climbing weight. Then, in Jan. of 2016 my heart went wonky! I ended up in the hospital having open heart surgery which resulted in a valve replacement and a double bypass of which I almost did not recover but recover I did and the weight started climbing again. Now this year in July, I needed to have a stent placed because one of the bypassed arteries failed so, another procedure. It doesn't end there. I started cardiac rehab about four weeks ago and this past wednesday I went in to rapid atrial fibulation and ended up hospitalized once again. They want to start me on warfarin or coumadin to thin my blood more but I have a history of bleeding so I declined the meds. Instead, I am focusing on getting this weight off of me so my body can function better, I can reduce insulin intake and take more of the stress off of my body. Wish me luck in this indevour! :-)

It is a struggle with prednisone and insulin but it can be done. I wish you well. Take care.
