bowd65's Journal, 14 March 2017

Had a good hour walk this morning with the dogs, brought them back and nipped in to Asda for a few bits. Whilst i was there i met a health care assistant who does bank on our unit now and again. She first said to me you look amazing Debbie, you have lost a lot of weight. I told her i had lost 2 stone, to which she then asked me if it was because of my illness that i had lost the weight. I told her that it wasn't the breast cancer that caused my weight loss. It was down to me actually thinking and doing something about all my risk factors, like being overweight and eating a crap diet. She then apologised for thinking that it was because i had been ill and because of the treatment. I told her not to be sorry i am the healthiest and fittest now than i have been in years!

Oh dear. I bet she feels like she can't say right for wrong! Strange some people think that at our age we can't actually decide to lose weight though, and it has to be an illness that's caused it. Quite a boost that someone noticed you're looking slimmer and fitter though :)

The preview for your journal stops at 'i met a health care assistant...' and I was hoping it was going to be a very handsome one, but ok failing that I guess one bringing compliments and noticing your successes is the next best thing. Congrats

I know what you mean.I met up with some friends (after losing 9 stone) and their first question was 'are you OK?' People make unfounded assumptions very quickly. G
