DairyKing's Journal, 19 December 2011

Happy Monday to all my FS friends! They were the best of times; they were the worst of times - this weekend. I ran 3.0 miles on Saturday, and got in 2.3 miles this morning - that was the good times. The diet - well, that's a different story. Had a party to celebrate a friend's graduation from nursing school Saturday. Did not pass up on the punch, cake, and nuts. Did a little picking over the weekend with the shortbread cookies, and finished off yesterday with some kettle cooked potato chips and extra crispy from Kentucky Fried Chicken. Not as much or as bad as it sounds, but not a habit I want to go back to.
I went and registered for the "Run Your Ice Off" 5K race on December 31st. I figure that's a race I'll have to keep moving in, or "freeze my ice off!" Saturday was the first time I've run 3 miles since the accident 7 1/2 years ago. I know I can do the 5K now; it's just a matter of dropping a little more weight, and not overdoing the training before the race. And yes, I plan on finishing at the back of the pack. But, I will finish.

Congrats on the runs. I wish I could run again. I miss it so much but I have a problem running in the winter. It hurts my lungs and I cough forever afterwards. I keep telling myself that once I hit 165 I'm going to start again even if it means running inside like a hamster running in a wheel. Don't stress too much on the eating, life happens and if we're all so worried about everything we put into our mouths do we then miss life? Don't over do but enjoy just the same.

It hurts my lungs too, but I think it's all about getting your body used to it.. I think if you start out small (a short 15-20 minute run outside) and then work your way up to big runs, it would help. I got outside for a job yesterday afternoon and it was a beautiful day outside! This MN winter has been surprisingly mild so far. But once the wind picks up and the temp really drops, I'll be inside on the treadmill.. DairyKing - way to go on the running!! And you're right, it's all about finishing the race - think of all the people that can't even do that!
