Toni Bourlon's Journal, 27 October 2016

I admit, sometimes I'm not too bright. This morning I had to get into work early, and before I left I had a small serving of instant oatmeal w/millk - not really enough, when I got here I was pretty hungry. And being that I was also not fully awake, I went downstairs to the deli & got one of my biggest temptations - a chocolate muffin! I know they are bad, I have NO IDEA how many calories are in them (I guestimate they are equivalent to Kroger muffins, but can't be sure), but I got it anyway. I sat at my desk & broke the muffin in half, eating half of it before I remembered that I'd bought a box of Sara Lee devil's food snack bars, at 200 calories each, just for this purpose. To stay away from the dreaded chocolate muffins (smacks forehead)! Well I'd already eaten half the muffin, so it was too late to have the Sara Lee snack instead, so I did the only thing I really could do - I threw the other half of the muffin away! I guess I can give myself one point for that (rolls eyes).

instant oatmeal makes me crave sweets. I stick to steel cut oats that I pre-cook and freeze for those kind of emergencies. you have more will power than I - I would have finished the muffin.

Perhaps if you add some protein with your oatmeal in the morning you will be less hungry - hard boiled eggs and oatmeal, a protein shake and oatmeal. Better to have protein and carbs together in the morning.

Seconding HCB's suggestion! I had that this morning actually. Although I just added protein powder directly to my oats, along with a tablespoon of chia seeds (just because I like their crunchiness). I bring it to work in a jar and add hot water. Super filling

you know, one of my biggest issues is actually forgetting that I am supposed to be making better food choices. I can't tell you how many times I've started on a Monday morning and then Tuesday afternoon (in the middle of eating something "bad"), remember "oh crap . . I'm not supposed to be eating this!" It happens to the best of us. Good for you for throwing away the 2nd half!
