Day 4 (of 14) LCHF - feeling pumped

Weigh in today shows I'm down another 1lb. Brings my total to 5.8 since last Monday (8/8). I was doing calorie counting last week and started LCHF on Monday (8/15). I skipped my evening berries and surprise surprise... I didn't wake up starving. Managed to put off breakfast until 9:30am, the salt on my eggs tasted AMAZING, I actually licked my bowl. Skipped my tea completely this morning. I had 1/4 a No Doz instead. I need caffeine.

Dinner last night was pork loin and roasted zucchini and squash. OMG so yum! I had a dream I ate chocolate ship cookies with Seth Rogan... Woke up in the middle of the dream to a GD charlie horse in my leg. I can still feel it. Guess I'm low on potassium, usually I would have started my day with a Banana, but that's a no no on LCHF. I'll do some research (OR TAKE SUGGESTIONS).

Outlook is excellent. I'm a little concerned about the weekend, mostly I'm not sure I will get my water. That seems to be my problem most weekends. I also noticed that I jumped right out of bed. No morning brain fog, even though I over slept. I also got in almost 8 hours of sleep (not including the charlie horse).

Happy Thursday everyone! Hope your feeling as focused and awesome as I feel today! SO JAZZED!

Keep it up Dewy! What are your nutritional targets which you try to hit every day? I have been living a low carb, high protein & fat lifestyle now for almost 7 months, and have dropped 134 lbs. Granted, I had a heck of a lot higher starting point than you are working from, but it validates the effectiveness of this style of eating. For me, I focus on eating only non-starch veggies, no grains, no starch, no added sugar. Nothing from a box. Veggie omelettes for breakfast, meat & veg (or zero carb protein shake) for lunch, meat & veg for dinner. Very few snacks, and even then it is maybe a little cheese or a beef jerky piece. Try to hit 0.6-1.0g of protein per lb of ideal body mass (IBM). I personally try to stay under 25-30 NET carbs (don't count fiber, as your body doesn't burn it: just keeps the works moving). I typically drink 1-2 gallons of water a day, depending on the day. Other than that, it is coffee with unsweetened almond milk. Nothing else. Have you gotten to the point yet where you don't even FEEL hunger anymore? As I am right now, the only way I know that I am hungry is that my mood changes (like in the Snickers commercials - I turn into Joe Pesci or Betty White). It is very liberating to not be driven by your belly telling you what to do when, rather your brain saying 'hey, need a little something something here', eating a sensible amount of calories, and feeling great for 3-6 hours, with no highs & crashes. I would recommend taking a good multi-vitamin every day to make up anything you may be missing (so the charlie horse stays away), and I also take the Krill oil to make sure I get a dose of the 'good' fats as well. Especially when avocado aren't available.

@madhatter: Multivitamins make me burp something HORRIBLE... I cannot stand the taste. I've tried 3 different kinds. Might need to go on the hunt again for one that doesn't make me burp. I have not reached the point where I don't get hungry. I was able to hold my fast for 14 hours, so that's a start. My goal is 70% fat; 30% protein; 10% carbs. So far I've been under my carb goal every day this week. My "allowance" is 38g of carbs, but I only hit 30g on Monday, I've been in the 20's both other days. I do feel this lifestyle is completely maintainable. My food journal is open if you want to take a look (and give me pointers!).

For multivitamins, maybe try out a 'gummy' style. Granted, it is a little bit of carbs, but might not be a burp issue. Will check out your journal as well :)

Low carb is naturally diuretic, so up the salt intake.

I do the Gummy Style vitamins as well. Love them. It's like having a candy snack.

Awesome work! Keep it up.

The gummy vitamins do not make me burp.. but they are higher carbs than I want to add to my diet. The 2g carb ones tasted GROSS; and the tastier ones have about 7g carbs. They all add an -ose to make them taste better.

Something you can really play with as an ingredient is Philadelphia Simply Stir. Check out the carbs 100g of that in the store. I make fish curry by frying fish pie mix with Fry Light Olive oil and then softening courgette and mushrooms and add spices before simply stirring in the Philadelphia. Very low carb and delish. Good loss so far. Keep it going.

I add light salt and salt, 1/4 teaspoon of I feel I need it. Light salt is potassium I think. And oh ya, lick the bowl. That's me these days lol. I also take 400 magnesium, sometimes twice a day, too much will give you the runs. Add for the weekend, just load up a container and drink, it will help you from cheating. I did also read an article about how much sodium our body needs and one said our body adapts, butdefinitely add if having a problem! I'm going to keep researching this one😁😁

Thanks Lizzy! I've always loved salt.

oh, meant to say, i put it in a SMALL glass of water and chug it like a shot of whisky, (both yuck) Like its a supplement and only when my sodium was running low or symptoms, (losing too fast, diuretic, cramps yada yada). I don't salt much since i'm so use to low sodium. The salt shot usually gets me to about 1500 g of sodium a day. I personally still try to keep my salt low because of BP, but who knows. What ever works.

I take two or three magnesium tablets before bed to avoid leg cramps. Really helps.

I take a potassium tablet each day for leg cramps.
