Losin25's Journal, 28 September 2011

So, I found out why I didn't sleep at all the other night...turns out I came home from hot yoga at 9:30 and drank a Vitamin Water Zero. No problem you are thinking. But you'd be wrong. Turns out that the Blood orange flavor, Drive, has caffeine and Yerbe Mate in it. I've been caffeine free for months and that crap kept me up all night. But then when I got into work yesterday, I drank another one. I was quite suspicious that I wasn't tired at all with only 2 hours of sleep. I never thought that any of these drinks would have caffeine in them, so I didn't look.

The funny part of that is about 7 p.m. I started getting really goofy acting. We ran to the store to get a few grocery staples and when we got back, I tried to unlock the house door with my car's automagic key lock thingy. Pushed it several times in fact. Noah looks at me and says, "What are you doing?" Then I realized that I had to physically open the door with the key. My husband made me go to bed around then...he said I was becoming more and more moronic as the minutes were slipping by. So, I didn't make it to hot yoga. I curled up into the bed with my Sookie Stackhouse novel and was out by 8:30.

Oh, and I wanted to mention one more thing...a couple of days ago I commented that I sweated a ton after running for at least an hour afterwards, but didn't do that when swimming. Well, I did some soul searching and realized that although I can swim 50-second laps for 20-30 minutes, I was just coasting. I wasn't really using my legs. I figured out that I've kinda been swimming like a parapalegic for the last couple of weeks and just dragging my legs behind me. I have kickass strong arms. But my heart rate wasn't getting up there.

Today, I took back control of my stroke and spent the first 35 minutes of my swim time focusing on kicking my legs and strengthening my kick. Used a kickboard and fins for a couple of my laps. And made sure that while doing my swim I was REALLY kicking my legs the whole time. I then got my HR back up and it was really challenging. And I sweated for an hour afterwards - so I know I got my stuff together. The weird thing is that with kicking, my lap times is slower...No more lazy swimming.

another awesome why to work harder while swimming...you might look like a total crazy person but wearing your clothes, the heavier the better. When I was on swim team they called it drag day. Some of the guys actually dressed up in drag but its called drag day because of the extra drag you get from your wet clothes.
