GO US! It shocks me that weight loss "programs" like Ediets, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers charge and average of $200 to lose one pound. Seriously? It's disgraceful! Thank goodness for Fatsecret and everyone here. We are the smart ones who are doing it the smart way. Even if I went on one of those programs, I would run out of money within 1 week and blow the whole point of trying to lose the weight "their way".
To me, they are setting us up to fail.

Well you can do Weight Watchers online for 20 bucks a month. I think it comes down to accountability. Some people can do it on their own and others need some kind of support system. But it is great that we can come on here a talk to others for support.

I think Weight Watchers went up now that Oprah bought the stock and is (for her own financial gain of course) advertising for them. What a sellout! Makes me sick!

This place is great and lots of support too. Any success I've had is because of that.

Isn't that so true---all the really high priced gimmicky diet plans out there that want nothing more than to take your money!!! I'm glad we all have this site to help. It's awesome!!

Don't do any diet that sells products.

another thing that gets me is all the healthy food is so damn expensive...............

Yay, 3 cheers for FS :) I live in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire is the anglicised version) and though I'm not a native I am now an honorary Cardi. Cardis are supposed to be very parsimonious; reputed to have taught "economy" to the Scots and people hailing from Yorkshire :) I'm spending more on healthy foods now, but sooo much less on the crap (am I allowed to say crap :) ) that we used to eat. It's gotta work out cheaper on balance. I hope so, but even if it is costing me a little more my health has got to be worth it. Heck, at the moment I won't even go out for a coffee with my mate, and that's quite a saving (lattes have too many carbs). My bill at the butcher is up, but we are indulging ourselves a bit with nice cuts of meat. That's got to be more than offset by what I'm not spending on bread, cakes, biscuits (cookies), chocolate and sweets, not to mention the crisps and savoury nibbles. I'll be interspersing the meat with more frozen fish (gerrof, cats!) and chicken as time goes on. I've done WW in the past ... yes, the costs do mount up, but I was earning then ... esp when they tempt you with their products. Eating pretend sweeties is counter-productive for me - I needed to break the sugar cravings, not pretend. I'm almost with Philmck on the "don't do a diet that sells products" ... I'm on Atkins (with tweaks and advice from my personal researcher, she's even got me buying more stuff at the organic shop!) but won't be trying their products. It's mostly "Atkins" but only as that's a convenient catch-all name for it. HFLC would prob be as good a name. I'm using the New Atkins book as guidance. I'm on week two of Atkins induction now and probably have never eaten so well. Sorry. Waffling :)

Over the years I am sure I have spent a good amount on different things. I remember I tried nutrisystem and it tasted awful, although my daughter did eat the snacks. I've been on weight watchers and lost a lot of weight there but gained it back. I've tried all kinds of supplements that didn't work. I paid for a gym membership for 3 years and didn't use it once. For me it's been a process that I have worked thru. Some people learn faster than others or are lucky enough to find a site like fatsecret sooner. Of course the web wasn't nearly as accessible back in the day! I love me some FATSECRET!

Most eventually lose weight because they don't have money to end up buying food, And unfortunately all of those program the same sad problem of bounce back wait cuz they never really address the problem
