AmberLaine's Journal, 14 December 2015

I overcame a major challenge today! I made sugar cookies for DD to take to school tomorrow for her birthday and I didn't eat a single bite. It was so hard! I made my usual Christmas cutout recipe, and they smelled soooo good! DD said they're great, and I'm going to take her word for it. The extra cookies are put up in a tupperware container until my next cheat day!

Speaking of:
Sort of dilemma regarding next week. We're going to see Star Wars Monday and then we have Christmas Eve and Day later in the week. On one hand I want to be able to enjoy the time and indulge in a few treats, but on the other hand, I don't want to stall like I did Thanksgiving week (or worse, gain). I'm still undecided. Any ideas?

Popcorn works for me at the movies. Especially air-popped popcorn I bring (although at the movie houses here I have to sneak it in, because "outside" snacks cut into the profits...). Enough popcorn and I'm too full to go for dessert or whatever. And it's practically calorie free! I love movies and popcorn. (Wish I had as clever a suggestion for the rest of the holidays. It's so hard to pay attention to what you are eating when you are being convivial with friends.)

I'm having the same thoughts. I want to stay on track, but on the flip side, the holidays only come once a year. I am going to try to make good, mindful choices, but I'm not going to beat myself up when I indulge. After Christmas is when I'm going to go back to being super strict!

awesome work! If I were you, I would have eaten 1 or 2 cookies -just to make sure they taste as good as they smell, haha! If you really want to have some treats during the upcoming days, try to pick stuff that worth the calories. For example, instead of craving soft drinks which can be found all year round, better have a nice christmas cupcake with a yummy frosting -anything special that you like eating during the Christmas holidays. Give in to the foods you really crave and give you joy, leave out all the rest :) Limit your portions and the alcohol (if you're drinking), keep urself hydrated and try to take a walk if possible -- you're gonna be fine :D

After reading your comments and talking to my mom, I've decided I might have popcorn at the movie. I also plan to enjoy Christmas Eve, which for us is tamales and cookies! Christmas Day I should be able to get on track, as I'm making prime rib. I just have to make approved sides for myself! And then no cheat day that Saturday (cheat day will be Christmas Eve)! Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support!

You mentioned pop corn. At home snack try Skinny Popcorn. Buy it at Sam's Club but some grocery stores carry it too. Only 38 calories per 150 cal per 3 3/4 serving with 15g of carbs 3 g dietary fiber. To make is more appealing I put my portion in a bowel and microwave for 10seconds just to warm it a little. Good luck and Merry Christmas

Enjoy! Just have the discipline to hop right back on the wagon. Remember this is a lifelong goal not just a temporary diet.

SkinnyPop Popcorn seems also to be sold at Costco, Aggie, which is easier for me to get to. It has more calories than air-popped popcorn, but looks like it tastes better because of the little bit of oil, so I'll try it. Thanks for the tip!
