Hammertone's Journal, 09 November 2015

Hmm, two night time blowouts that I was too embarrassed to write down, in only three days.

Not pleasing to see how easily I can fall back into dreadful eating habits. All it took was a minor disappointment and the comfort eating kicks right back in. Bugger!

This is not the time to give up, when I'm more than half way to a respectable weight. I should be able to get back on track today with a 6-9pm band rehearsal keeping me well away from the kitchen through my most munchie prone period of the day.

I find that if i force a distraction on myself it helps avoid the comfort eating. I have lots of hobbies. I see you are into music. I am learning the piano, and i go and practice when i am tempted. I also paint and am learning a language so the are all great distractions. If nothing else works i go to bed!!! Good luck, it's worth it.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I too am a great believer in the usefulness of distraction in conquering the passing urge for comfort/boredom eating. I enjoy a range of hobbies and happily dabble in photography, railway modelling and computers. I deliberately set up two new distractors as part of my current Spring Offensive in the Weight Wars: teaching myself to program in Python and beginning to learn vibraphone and keyboard, all of which adds to the irritation about having an unjustifiable lapse. But, today is a new day and I'm back on track again.

I know how food makes you feel better for an hour or so, but disappointment is responsible for so many of our emotional eating bad habits. Don't give up. We are right behind you!!!

I have the same problem - comfort eating. I find that if I get tempted to eat something I shouldn't, then I go brush my teeth and that helps. Everything tastes gross with toothpaste lol

Okay, that's a neat strategy!
