Sandy701's Journal, 11 August 2011

Well, this was an odd start to the day. DH told me a nearby city was in the low 70's this AM, so I thought I could wait a bit to walk - WRONG! I took doggies out for a mere .7 miles when I began to feel the heat more than I'd like. So I opted to go back on Stairmaster to finish out my exercise for the day.

My leg muscles felt tired right from the start so I had to change my initial program and go with a boring ol' manual one. Burned a whopping 144 calories :( per Stairmaster but 324 per my HRM! I don't know what's up with the HRM, but it's been overestimating my calories by over 100%. I'm only logging the SM totals.

Had a nice dip in the pool and cleaned up the yard a bit for trash tomorrow. I saw some big clouds and, sure enough, it clouded up and stormed for about an hour. We had a huge storm last night too, with no watches or warnings having been issued. I'm pretty ticked about that as the storm was really intense and we've had warnings issued for much lesser storms.

Of course, with these storms, I've had to medicate, yet again, my one poor doggy who is now positive the world is coming to an end. Makes it hard to do anything but sit in one place when she's like this, as she's always getting tangled up in my legs/feet if I move.

The weather has now calmed, so maybe I can actually get some other things done today.

Oh Sandy, my little dog was like that..we had a special room to go to. I'd turn on the TV and we would have to lay together until it was all over..bless their hearts they can't help it.....Hope you can get her settled soon....Bren

Shhhhh....right now I've got a lot of lights on and the TV's on loud and she's snoozing on my bed. However, I can hear the thunder approaching so I need to check radar to see what we're in for next. Hope your weather is more peaceful.

I thought of you today because we had such beautiful weather!!! The weather in NH was dry, low 80's, with a breeze! Gorgeous! Next week I'll be in Florida visiting my son in Orlando and will probably get a dose of H & H weather.

Sandy - I feel so sorry for you and the dog. At least you have meds on hand to ease her terror. My dog outgrew his fear of thunder but he still sings along whenever the fire truck goes by.

Lisa, I'd love dry 80's with a breeze! Have (H&H)fun in Orlando.

Yes, Buffy, this is my 2nd dog like this, and the first that I've had meds for. But in both their cases, they've lived with another dog that seems/seemed fairly oblivious to storms, so go figure! My Oblivious One also tunes into sirens, but he doesn't sing....just gets very intense like they're coming to get HIM!

Good thing they've got such a caring Mommy.

I also have an older, 12 yr old golden, that hates storms, lighting or firworks... She tries to find the smallest space she can crawl under and weather it out. The older she gets, the worse the fear, but we do what we can to make her comfortable. Good you are suching a caring Mom to her.
