Last night I did my second 5K of the year. My friends held the event to raise money for a local boy that has cancer. So of course I said I would participate. I'm glad I did. When I signed in they asked me if I was a runner or a walker. I signed in as a walker, but I jogged and walked and I finished with the runners. In fact I passed about 6 or 7 of the runners. It was for a great cause and I had a fabulous time. They are going to have another fundraising 5K in October...I'm actually looking forward to doing it again. Maybe that time I'll enter as a runner.

It must have been a great feeling to exceed your own high expectations -- and a double-bonus exercising for a 'good cause'!

I was sweaty, huffing, there were several times I was sure I was going to throw up...it was one of the best times I have had in a long time. I was super proud of myself.

I'm not a runner either. I attribute being able to jog about half of the 5K to all the Zumba I do. I go to Zumba 6 days out of the week (soon to be 7, because my sister just got her certification and she needs to practice leading a class). And each class is about an hour long. I finished the 5K in about 37 minutes. I truly believe I was able build the endurance for the race from Zumba. And yes Glen, I have come to love pushing myself to the limit. And just when I think I have reached that point I always surprise myself with what I can accomplish. The mind will give up long before the body.

Way to go. Those are great events - both personally and for the community. It is tremendous how far you have come. Keep being the leader. Your "I was sure I was going to throw up ... It was one of the best times" put a smile on my face as well. It is crazy how your perspective of fun changes.

I am so proud of you. I am not a runner either, but was just thinking this morning of getting a friend who is to sign up for a 5K with me. I would be elated with a 37min finish! :) You inspire me.
