nicholaix's Journal, 04 July 2015

Not surprised, I put up 29 pints of strawberry jam and 10 pints of strawberry rhubarb. Thats a lot of testing and slices of toast lol. Tonight is blueberry and tomorrow apple butter. I'd sell my soul for a peck of peaches right about now. Thats the biggest thing I miss living up here.
I think the best strategy for an 'eating' weekend like the fourth is to let yourself sample the foods you love and fill up on safe foods. A little bump is easily lost versus a 5lb whooops........( as I sit here eating blueberries by the cupful lol)
172.8 lb Lost so far: 0.2 lb.    Still to go: 22.8 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I was just thinking that I needed to put up some jams. Of course, I don't know when but I suppose instead of sitting on my behind reading entries I could get the canning gear out. Maybe I will look into that this week. Thanks for reminding me!

North Central Maine. Very short growing season. Mostly potatoes and apples except for a few months in summer.

Western MTNs of Maine only like 40 miles from NH and Canada here. AND agreed a very short growing season. We still had snow on the ground May 1st. I learned how to put away pies frozen too! My Grandmother always had pies in the freezer!

Off to search for LOW carb pie crust recipes... there has to be one using almond flour or coconut flour.

Surprisingly I make horrific piecrust so no pies. We have some kind of jam or jelly on our toast every morning as well as drizzled over ice cream sometimes. The boys do anyway. So I make a fair amount every year. I just found a few recipes for fruit syrups too I might try since maple is going to be so expensive this year because of the weather.

Did exactly that. Tasted things just to satisfy my curiosity. Enough to fill me up.

See that's what I mean. I really think that's how we will be successful for the long haul. To allow the bits every now and again instead of depriving yourself until you binge. Just keep portions small and limit to one indulgence at a time instead of a cheat weekend.

I believe that.

Strawberry jam mmmmm does that fall into the no junk food?
06 Jul 15 by member: Rockiesfan
Thats a good question. Its strawberries and sugar and I did have a fingertips worth a few times when testing it. I guess my definition of junk food is having artificial ingredients and unneeded additives. I didn't really look at it as junk food.
