BuffyBear's Journal, 30 May 2015

I am blessed to have found an eating plan that works for me. My experiment of not adhering to this plan on weekends has proved disastrous. Why I ever thought I could "take the weekends off" is beyond me.

Yes, my weekends are full of "events" but none of these involve me being restrained and force fed against my will. So, having made this mental adjustment, I am going to share a quote that will set the tone for this weekend:

“There's no reason to have a plan B because it distracts from plan A.”
― Will Smith

Good for you Buffy!! Choose wisely, it works. It's a life change, something that has to work for you everyday, with a bit of flexibility built in. I learned a couple years ago being on and off my basic plan didn't really work to lose weight. Mine is more flexible than a low carb as I decided I can eat anything in small amounts. I try hard when I'm away from home to stay with as non processed (hard sometimes), and eat veggies and lean proteins. LIke at fish fry's at the lake. I would eat the fresh fried catfish, maybe a few onions, and we usually had some salad. I'd skip the fried potatoes, the potato salad, the green bean casserole, the deserts people would bring if others were there, DD does not do desserts either. I now give myself a little more leeway, not much. some beer (rare on my downhill journey), and the scale varies constantly between 132 and 128. That's fine with me as it averages @ 130.

Wholefoodnut - You are the poster child for maintenance. Gives me encouragement that some day I'll get to see 130 again.

Buffy, not really. Just found a WOE that fits me and after 2 years, tweaking along the way, now it's easy not to veer very far. If I do I feel awful, so I think, why should I do this to myself? it will not make me feel good. I've slipped drastically on the strength training and cardio since my bronchitis bout in March that kicked me out of the gym for a month. Need to get back at it. I believe the book Draglist recommended to me several years ago "Younger Next Year" there is a version for women that I read and re-read. I need to order a copy for me as I kept checking it out of the library. My opinion everyone should read it, doesn't matter if they need to lose weight or not.

Well decided to give this site a go :) I need the inspiration of these great testimonies and experiences :) I just signed up to go back to weight watchers for what seems like the 100th time. I am looking forward to getting back to it as I have finally come to realize I need that accountability factor...also came across this site while looking for low calorie healthy meals :) Joined up for the Walking challenge beginning June 1st as well :) I need to lose about 115lbs which seems like a huge mountain to climb for me...but will do my best to take it off and look at it in smaller portions...so my first goal is to shed that first 5lbs! My current weight is 250lb (which I am sad to say but realize I need to say it)Looking for encouragement along the way...

LOVE that quote! Excellent thinking - we both are gonna get there THIS year!

I LOVE the quote....my DH says this all the time when I am trying to second guess with scenarios in our line of business. He always says, just do it the way we said we would do it and quite tinkering around with maybe's.... I am like you, I have tried some of the options I read about from others and what does it get me, pounds gained! I may never be able to take weekends off or have a carb day...for now, I know what seems to be working and I have to just own it and let the other go. I am with you wholeheartedly on this one.

HCB - I value your opinion. If you believe, then I believe.

Gwen - I think your DH is right (did I just say that?). There is a time to tinker and a time to know when to leave it alone. I suspect in maintenance we will have more wiggle room. But the last time I looked maintenance was a long way away (with no one to blame but myself).
