Im ready to up my net carbs but i want some advice from those who have successfully moved into OWL then WOW. Im at 20-25 sometimes 30 net carbs but i tend to stick close to 20 most of the time. Ive added in greek yogurt, berries, melon here and there and some cottage cheese and nuts. But I want to start to add in beans here and there.. and I know i need to move on BUT here's my question, will this kick me out of ketosis if I up my carbs? Ive never moved out of induction successfully and failed at atkins 2 time now. I dont expect to add bread or grains or any of that. I just need to find the confidence to up my carbs to 30-35 daily, still lose weight and eat right. I cant stay is induction for ever. Im just so nervous bc I failed before. Ive come such a long way now. Its been 5 months, so I need to step out of my comfort zone. I have the atkins book so would it just be safe to Phase 2 35-40 net carbs? again, im super scared it will stop my weight loss.... HELP low carb gurus... on another note, I got 18k in steps today...

Just be mindful of the extra calories that things like beans will add to your total for the day and keep portions appropriate. try it for a week, if your weight creeps up or you dont see any more loss cut it back again. Everyone is different so you won't know until you try it. Good luck!

I agree with Nicolaix - watch the calories too. I count my total carbs every day but I know Atkins counts the effective or net carbs daily. Maybe just add 5 carbs at a time and see if you still lose. It may be quality too - meaning low sugar fruit, and little dairy.

I have successfully moved from induction to OWL in the past, (currently starting back on induction after a weight gain and 3 years later) I carefully added new foods to see what I could tolerate. i found that just because it was within the Net carbs limit it did not mean I could tolerate it. Like Pineapple...was too much sugar and it would stall me, but I could eat blueberries, raspberries , cantaloupe, and other fruits with no problem. The key to successful OWL jump is adding things one at a time and watching your net carb count to see where your NC count lands and you can still be successful. Eventually I found I could be at 50-55 NC and still lose. It all depends on your level of activity too and your metabolism. Good luck and dont be scared just be cautious!

OK so this is wonderful advice. Ive decided to follow Atkins Phase 2 OWL 35 -40 carbs BUT im sticking to the 35 carbs meal plan in the book for a week or two and see where that takes me..It includes cherries, berries, melon, jicima, cottage cheese, yogurt , ricotta cheese. Im opting to hold back on the tomotoe juice for now..SO the only thing I really adding is the the cottage and ricotta, the cherries. melon and jicima.... baby steps I keep telling myself. Im gonna follow the book to a T and see where it takes me. If the scale goes up or stalls then MEH, Ill cut back and at least Ill know what I can tolerate. ON a side note, I weighted myself today and Im up 2 lbs to 215 again but I blame that ice cream on Saturday and maybe water weight. its not official till Monday anyway so I have some time to work on it. Im pretty active for the most part so Im sure that will help/

if you do add tomato juice be mindful of the salt, most have salt added and some even have sugar. Read your labels.

Wholefood. your right, reading labels is the most important thing ever...thats why i never ever take my MR to the store with me LOL. I dont like to be rushed..AND ive started carrying my carb counter in my purse where ever I go so's to be sure I buy the right things..

Well, I don't know if I have "successfully transitioned" but will give you some advice anyway. I strongly suggest you do a quick Google of the Glycemic Index . Slowly digesting carbohydrates can be your friend. The carb count of a food comes from a measurement done in a lab. I am more interested in how food behaves in an actual human body.
