writingwyo's Journal, 28 November 2022

So much for my grand ambitions to nudge the calories down a little and up the activity, at least for a day or two. Seem to have caught a mild cold, and my tried and true remedy for shaking them is zinc, complete rest, and a lot of simple carbs. Often, if I do this early enough on, I'm fine and dandy the next day. I'm bewildered by people who go ahead and work out with a cold. For me, that's a sure road to being flattened for a week. If you can do it without making yourself sicker, more power to ya, but that ain't me! 🤣

Oh goodness! I hope your remedy works for you quickly! I cannot work out feeling sick. Rest is best for me, too! Feel better!:)🤗🌸

The way I look at it, if my body is trying to fight off an 'invader' I'm not taking away/using up valuable resources it needs. Science classes in Jr. High School were very interesting. :-)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who chooses rest over exercise! I sometimes feel a little guilty, because I've seen the opposite advice so many times. The last time I caught a severe cold, I had done nothing more vigorous than go for a walk early on, and I ended up off work sick for a week. The first day after it really hit, I literally didn't have enough energy to watch television 🤣 I'm about 90% sure I can shake this one if I just listen to what my body needs today instead of listening to what most of the world tells me I should do 😉

Sorry about the cold. I hit the Airborne at first sign of one and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Morticia 😊 Maybe I'll try that at some point

The advice I heard was to go ahead with a workout if the cold is from the neck up, and to bedrest if it's below the neck. Sniffles=Go, Coughing=No. Either way, I just pound the Vitamin C, eat clear soups, and drink green tea to hydrate & flush. I hope you recover soon, Wyo! 🤕💚

I've heard that advice, too, JustBananas, but it is seriously wrong for me for some reason. If I have the slightest of sniffles or scratch in the throat and don't rest, I get ridiculously sick. If I rest, I'm usually over it the next day. I've seen the pattern too many times now and figure I'd rather be lazy for one day than sick for seven. I know it works for a lot of people, though

And thanks, JB, for the well wishes! 😃

Hope you feel better soon. I wouldn't work out if I felt sick. The sure sign for me that I am starting to get "something" (a cold, flu, etc) is if I can't stand the thought of having a cup of coffee.

Fritzy -- I would have to be incredibly sick to not want coffee! 🤣

I’m with you! I feel all poor me and just want to have a milkshake and a very long sleep. I did that last time. Didn’t workout for a few days until my energy returned. My lungs were pretty congested too. Don’t feel guilty.. make yourself comfyand get better ❤️‍🩹

Thanks Anne and APhoebe 😊 Truth be told, I don't feel all that bad. Not at "poor me" stage by a long shot. If anything, I was a little physically restless yesterday. I just know from hard experience that if I rest right away, even if it looks wimpy to do so, I'm over it fast, whereas if I suck it up and keep going, I'll end up at "poor me" and down for the count more days than it takes to pamper myself 😉

So the New York Times weighed in! JustBananas -- they did the above/below the neck thing, but they included fatigue and aches as below the neck. Yep, got that. Plus, irritation in the very top of my chest. Guess I'm off the hook for being a slacker ;-)

Let's think about ways how we can change "poor me" to "happy me".

I'm actually pretty happy, Anne 😃 Just have an unwanted viral guest who won't stay long 😉 I've started writing down one thing I'm grateful for every morning, and wow has that sweetened my outlook!
