Within a week I gained 6lbs... man... how embarassing.

I can't allow my life events to dictate how much I eat. This needs to stop. I don't want my old habits, they should be long gone by now... sigh.

It's the 21st, I'm 206 lbs and I was SO close to getting under that 200 mark... I gotta want it bad enough. I need to surround myself with positive reinforcement. I will get back on track. I WILL. Starting today. :) Salad for lunch! Something creative for dinner... One step at a time. No rush. Slow and steady wins the race!

My dads side of the family is diabetic; Grandmother, Uncle, Father, and I just found out yesterday that my Mom is pre-diabetic. She said she has until the end of February to get her insulin under control or they'll be putting her on medication. It frustrates me that they're talking about meds... I wish I could help my mom make better choices... But how will I help her if I can't do it myself?

Focus, focus, focus!

Six pounds in a week sounds like way too much to be fat gain - I bet that's more to do with either your girl-cycle, or your water+sodium intake. Keep drinking water, and try to concentrate on your long-term weight trend. Watching the week-to-week (or as I do, day-to-day) spikes can make you a bit crazy. :)

Eat really clean for a few days and drink lots of water and I bet that 6lbs falls right off! I was up 3 lbs-ish on Sunday and I'm back to what I was before the weekend, you CAN do it! And you will!

Hot tea, black coffee, & water - flush out that sodium! You've already got the right attitude, and you knew that this weekend was a killer for you, but you can get back Kehfeh!

Carbs. Carbs load you with water. That being said, I know that my 'maintenance calories' when I was 230 were about 3400 calories. It's easy once you add coca-cola and chips the the diet. Hang in their kid. You've got a lot of emotional stuff right now. As far as your mom, advise her anyway. Tell her to get rid of the stachy carbs. Is she on metformin? Is that where she's going? Cutting carbs instantly drops blood sugar. For some reason, doctors don't like to suggest cutting them out. Oh, sure. They'll tell you to 'eat better' meaning no junk food, but bread, chips, stuffing, crackers, all of that stuff is junk food to a diabetic. Once you're on medication, particularly if they're looking at insulin injections, they want you to eat a 'balanced meal' which includes starchy carbs. It's their way of having you meet the medication so your diabetes is 'easier to manage'. Yeah, easier for them. Add to that the fact that insulin is one of the fat storage hormones and you're on the fast track to weight gain and all the tragic things that go along with diabetes. There are some good diabetic cookbooks out there for reducing carbs in your meals. Why not get her one? You could copy some down for yourself before you give her the book. :) Your mom needs to get ahead of this, and if it's in your family like that, you need to as well. Everyone on my mom's side of the family has it.

You know what you need to do. Now get to it, Sister! You know you'll get nothing but positive reinforcement from us.

Don't give up the fight. We've all hit that plateau and know the frustration that goes along with it. We're behind you all the way.

I have the same problem. I celebrated my birthday Sunday with cake, Tostitos, and to top it off, I bought some pastrami for the week and ate way too much of it Monday and Tuesday. My scale now says I gained 5 pounds and my fingers are puffy. Hang in there. We can get rid of this water bloat together!! :) Drink lots of water, water and more water!

6 lbs in a week is nothing, I can gain that after one night of beer and wings lol Seriously though get back on track and that weight and more will be gone before you know it!

Hang in there, don't give up, as others have said it's more water weight than anything else. Cut the carbs and drink lots of water, you can flush it back out nearly as quickly as it came on.

You have this Kelly. I know you do. I have done the same thing. This week was a real wake up call for me as well. I am dedicating myself back to what I was doing. No ifs ands or buts about it. We are all here for you.

Last year, I lost 5 pounds in three months while laying around in bed recovering from a broken ankle. I stayed on my way of eating the entire time. I guarantee you that there are small changes occurring in your body right now. Don't depend on that scale! Take measurements too! And I think it is fantastic that you want to help your mom! Maybe you should start recording the changes in your blood sugar levels. Maybe that would change her view on carbohydrates too! You've Got This!
