Debbie Cousins's Journal, 05 April 2022

It's 10:13pm. I was able to sleep from 7 until about 9:30. If I could stay in one position all night, I could sleep much longer. I'm a side sleeper, and as long as the "top" side nostril is clear, I can breathe without having to have my mouth open. But, when I turned over in the night, that put the clogged side on top, and I've been sneezing and blowing my nose for 45 minutes so far, trying to get both nostrils clear.

My walking today has already set a new record, and I'm going to try to get in another half mile before I go back to sleep. Right now, I'm at 3.5 miles - a half a mile up from yesterday. I looked bac in my exercise diary and found out that I haven't walked that much in a day since 2019 and then it was just a fluke - maybe at the state fair, or something like that. Setting a timer and getting up out of my recliner to walk every half hour has been a game-changer.

I got in my 5 vegetables yesterday - no fruit because I would have put it in a smoothie, and I didn't know how the milk and yogurt in it would do with this sinus drainage. I also considered a bowl of cereal with banana to get a fruit in, but the milk in the cereal might have thickened the mucous. Lord knows, I don't want to do anything to make it WORSE. Veggies were 2 servings of baby lima beans, one serving green beans, one serving of baby carrots, and a serving of mashed potatoes.

I weigh about 258 right now, and I'm 5'7" tall. My BMI is 40.4 - back into the "morbidly obese" category. To register a "normal" BMI, I would have to lose ONE HUNDRED POUNDS (again!) and get down to 158 pounds. So, right now, inside, I'm a 158-pound person carrying TWO 50-pounds of dog food with every step I take. No wonder it is so hard for me to walk or do much of anything productive. ONE 50-pound bag of dogfood is something I could only hold onto for maybe two minutes before I'd have to drop it. Imagine carrying around TWO of them, every waking moment!

What's a "visual" of how much YOU are carrying around? Things like, a gallon of milk weighs 8 pounds. A bag of sugar is 4 pounds - yes, they've made the packages smaller. A 12-pound bowling ball is, duh, 12 pounds. ORRRR, think of how much you've ALREADY lost and quantify that in something visual. Let's have fun and get motivated by this. Gonna go pick up my two 50-pound bags of dog food and strain to lug them another quarter of a mile around my house.

Good visual with the dog food, Debbie! I picture myself carrying a solid two year old child piggyback every minute of every day. It makes climbing ladders to do the church windows so much harder and slower. Good focus! I want to put that kid down eventually so it can go play by itself and get off my back. If your reading this and think I am mean, it’s a pretend kid!😁

I can identify. At almost 90# lost, I have discussed the same visual. It is amazing what we can do at that weight. Think what we can do when we put it down! Good work on the mini goals! You are on the right track.
