Debbie Cousins's Journal, 10 March 2022

Things are continuing to go well. Per the "Atomic Habits" suggestions to "Make it Obvious" for habits you want to establish, I have placed a bowl of washed grapes on the kitchen counter, and another bowl with apples and bananas. Per the suggestion to "Make it Invisible" for a habit you want to break, I have MOVED the boxes of Entennman's donuts to the left side of the refrigerator (I almost always go in the right side.)

I have also followed the "Make it Easy" for establishing the new habit of drinking water by placing a little box with four 8-oz. bottles of water next to my chair, so they are easily available. To "Make it Difficult" for breaking my Diet Coke habit, I am using more ice in my cup, and not filling it all the way full. When I use up the four 2-liter bottles in my kitchen, I'm going to make it even MORE difficult by buying a single bottle at a time, at full price (instead of stocking up at sales) and pay for them out of my own PayPal account (instead of having them come out of grocery money). That will make it REALLY painful, because I like to save money!

I finished listening to the audiobook for the second time yesterday. I was GOING to start on a new book called "Mini Habits for Weight Loss," (listened to the first two chapters last night); but, instead, I think I'm going to listen to "Atomic Habits" a THIRD time first, since I am getting so much out of it and actually TAKING ACTION to apply the principles I'm learning.

Up to drinking FOUR 8-oz bottles of water a day now. With the new habits of using more ice and not filling my glass of Diet Coke all the way full, I will be drinking MORE water, because I "have to" drink a bottle after I finish each glass of Diet Coke. That's called "Habit Stacking." After you do something that is already a habit (drinking Diet Coke), you attach a NEW habit (drinking water). I've also done that with going to the bathroom. After I go to the bathroom, I do a two-minute job of some sort. Laundry is coming along nicely using this new technique, and things have gotten much tidier around my house. (I go to the bathroom pretty frequently with all those fluids I drink!)

I'm considering the possibility of beginning to track my food, starting with Monday's Daily Accountability Challenge. I haven't made a firm commitment to that yet - just leaning in that direction. Might be next week, might be the week after, but I think it is my near future.

Glad to finally have something GOOD to report!

May God bless each of you on your Journey to better health.
