The Nutritionist on Atkins site made a blog and came out and specifically said she was "not for" IF or the "Fat fast". As a person who utilizes both how should I feel? I wrote on her thread MY experience with fasting, and the fat fast. I can only hope she is not dogmatic. I like posting on the Atkins site! She is going to make it hard to do so freely about my weight loss as it is very much about fasting, IF, and fat fasts.

I agree with persistandendure...I've lost 60 pounds since last year...What I do is a fast to lose water for the first 2 weeks of dieting it consist of alternating fruits and veggies for 6 days, with a light meal on the 7th day...Then I start the Atkins...take multi-vitamins, drink plenty of water and Walk just about everyday...

Atkins is the same as any other diet. First and foremost they will protect their turf. Each time they admit something else may work they weaken their own position. Don't let it bother you. I doubt they'll give you a really hard time. What was her rationale? I found the biggest plus with IF (which I do from time to time) is the way I got to feel full. That's a bonus when you're struggling to stay on track.

Fasting makes me binge, but that's my personal experience and so it wouldn't work for me. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't support you and perhaps even learn from your experience. So perhaps don't worry about it unless you have a negative experience? Even someone who is against a process is someone you can learn from. We are here to share information, opinion, and our experiences and I think you should always feel open to doing that.

Torzie, you may not be aware of what intermittent fasting is? It's actually eating all your calories in an 8 hour window each day. That's all it is. It can encompass any diet.

Yeah, I can't do it. It makes me overeat. If I start my day at 5:30, eat around 6:30, only have until 2:30 to eat and then don't eat until 16 hours later, I'm STARVING and I eat ALLLLL the things lol. But that's my personal issue.

Northern, My fast is different. On my fast day I consume 500 calories sometimes 600 of high fat. Followed by a normal feed day. I used to water fast for 36 hours, but now I have high fat on these days.

im totally against fasting, and i too have binges when i restrict.. but i keep my eyes on my own plate. If it makes you happy, and you feel good I wouldn't worry about what others thinks.

I just hope they don't kick me off their site because they do not advocate fasting.. ya know? Its kinda stressful. I know Fasting is NOT for EVERYONE. Some people do really well with it, others not so much. I'm just happy I found something that works for me personally.

LMAO....I will never trust a "nutritionist". If you want real info by someone who is educated find a registered dietician. Anyone can take a online class and become a certified nutritionist.

What Floodjlc said. There is a huge difference between a nutritionist and dietician. Further, there is no conclusive evidence to support or disprove fasting. Simple as that. Personally I think that's because, while we are all human, people have such different system reactions from one type of nutrition and diet to another. It makes since we would have similar diversity from fasting to not fasting. So if it works for you and it's good for you that is all that matters. If the site is silly enough to kick you for that reason, I think you are better off not there anyways- but I really don't think they will. There's no true scientific basis for doing so that can't be thoroughly countered just as scientifically.

LOL FLoodjlc! I doubt I could post that without getting kicked off for sure...Hahahaha...

If you're referring to Colette Heimowitz, she's the only nutritionist I've ever liked. Her main concern is that people use Atkins safely. My guess is she doesn't like "fat fasts" because the main reason most people "stall" on Atkins is by refusing to add carbs back to their diet or go up the plan. Many people jump ship from Atkins to Paleo, and it works because they add carbs back, which is what they're SUPPOSED to do on Atkins. I've seen people post about being on Induction for a year or more, and then wonder why they stall. For the majority of people, there's not a good reason to fast if you follow Atkins and add carbs back. But if it works for you, then that's your business. As long as it's once in a while. Another issue with fasting is that people end up doing it a lot, so it's not a fast, it turns into periodic starvation (I'm watching my in-laws do this right now - hooray). I've seen this enough from when I was a psychologist. Eating disorders are rampant, and "fasting" is a great slippery slope to begin one. So even though people lose weight by fasting it can wreck havoc on their bodies. I'm sure Colette has seen many people do that (as have I), and from what I've seen of her, she is always promoting the safest weight loss, not the fastest nor the most popular.

AmethystM, she actually replied quite kindly to my three replies to her thread (to my surprise). Everyone has there reasons for fasting, and I do not fast longer than 36 hrs and even then I consume 500 high fat. So I do get food, some. I'm just glad I was acknowledged by her and not dismissed.

That's interesting Torzie. I'm the other way. I'm fine as long as I feel well fed a couple of times a day. I don't do it all the time. Interesting it doesn't work that way for you. Good to know what works for each of us.
