Frazzemrat's Journal, 01 April 2014

So, Starting to look for exercises that will help me tone and lose weight. My biggest problem is I can't do high impact, so running or jumping type exercise is out. I have very bad knees and when doing squats I creak more than the worst set of stairs (no joke). Even shocked the physical therapist I had a couple years ago after an injury (knee of course).

So I'm thinking about the classic pushups, planking, crunches, and doing some lifting with my free weights. That's mostly core and upper body... I can only think of squats for my legs, and I really need to strengthen my legs, if only for the sake of my knees.

Thoughts?

biking is supposed to be good for the knees. maybe invest in a stationary one?

I purchased a used total gym cheap on craigslist and use it for squats as it didn't hurt as much. I needed a bigger platform for my feet and found something sturdy for wide squats. You can do twisted squats, turn on one side for one legged squats, and one knee on the board and push off with the other leg. The muscle definition is awesome. I also didn't want to pay for the bar to add weight, so I am using a shower curtain rod I had and have 2 - 5 lb weights on each side. Sorry I seem so cheap, but every time I pay a lot for exercise equipment I have never really used it!

That's a great idea! Even better to get a real bike, you can get the stationary set up for during the winter. Not sure how much, but I know they're out there.

Look at the "Walk Away the Pounds" dvds, they are pretty low impact. You can always adjust to walking slowly in place. There are upper body workouts and swimming. Do some googling, there is workout dvds for everyone now.
