shirfleur 1's Journal, 12 January 2021

"These are the times that try men's souls; the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."
Thomas Paine

Those few of us here of my generation have seen Presidential assassinations and the assassinations of civic leaders, cities burning, segregation and integration, the Civil Rights Movement and the murders that accompanied that movement, race riots and Vietnam War riots. And this week we witnessed an attempted coup that, if successful, could have ended our Democratic form of Government. Just because someone says something repeatedly does not make it so. Search out the truth and back it up with VERIFIABLE data.

I am having a difficult time focussing on healthy eating right now, sorry.

I know it's a scary time. I blame media in part for fanning the flames. The truth is likely to be somewhere in the middle. I think the best each of us can do now is to promote love and peace and if it's within our power to do so seek peaceful solutions that aren't against the law of this society. Don't give up hope Shirfluer. Just keep shining your light.

Shir I know exactly how you feel. The world is overwhelming at times & current events produce a lot of anxiety . One thing I take comfort in today is that we have checks & balances in government that are being implemented. Impeachment will happen tomorrow January 13th in the House of Representatives. The Senate trial will take place on January 19th ( by all indications). The wheels of justice seem slow but remember that they are turning. The FBI has made hundreds of arrests of the January 6th insurrectionists. Warnings have gone out to all 50 states and their state capitals to prepare for possible political violence & more domestic terrorism. All threats are being taken seriously. I do not subscribe to the “don’t worry about it” philosophy - because I don’t have the privilege to do that. It might work for others and that’s great. But I prefer to gather information and stay informed. However, sometimes, its good to take a short break from social media and the news. It could be a half day or a few hours. Do something for yourself in that time. Feel free to send me a private message if you want to talk further. I will log in on my laptop to check the mail ( just let me know). Take care 🌺🌺🌺🌺 Shir and know you are not alone in caring deeply about the state of our union.

Well written post Shir and so true. I, too, am having a hard time concentrating on self care. The capital is not that far away from my location. Between covid and the insanity of some people it's unbelievable. Take care.

I normally focus only on healthy eating and weight loss on this site....But....Sadly the truth does not appear matter in this political environment. And very few in this current government have the decency or courage to think or act BUT for themselves and their own self-seeking motivations. In essence we have a majority of cowards on both sides and in both chambers, who wring their hands and point fingers at each other. I lived near Detroit during the riots and remember well. I remember the president and civic leaders that were murdered. I have also lived through times of wars and of peace. This was in NO way a coup attempt. And sadly there are few checks and balances left in our government because politicians have all become filthy rich by dividing and politicizing every moment of their existences; using their public offices or high courts. And if one studies unrevised history, when the censors silent their perceived foes, that will not quench their lust for power. They will come after the next group and the next and it never ends well for the censored. It would truly behoove anyone to educate themselves about the truth and actual history. Because disgustingly we are on the cusp to repeat what we have apparently not learned from. And sadly civics are not taught about our Republic.

I lived in Washington DC and in Northern Virginia, right next to Arlington Cemetery. I used to walk down the hill to the Pentagon to catch the Metro. I've visited that hallowed building, our nation's Capitol, walked up those magnificent stairs and into that rotunda, so beautiful and so inspiring.

I am 1 of 79,000,000. (72,000,000 + 7,000,000) I’m Conservative in my political views. Like all of you, who, I’m sure condemn the summer riots I also condemn last weeks actions of violence. I know where my loyalties are. All of our personal choice actions outside the law are our own responsibility and they always will be. Unlike many of you, I am being physically censored, discarded, cancelled. If we allow OUR governments to continue on this path, one day soon it will be one of you. Food for thought. I praise the FS peeps for working towards this peaceful space free of political views. This is my first and last post on political subjects here. Be Blessed Y’all! ✌️

THX for sharing Shirfleur. My daughter and I were stranded in DC during the last weather bomb and had about two hours to walk around before our Train left. Just standing outside those buildings gave us both great pride, and we intend to do a "real" visit one day. I was saddened, angry, and am still bewildered at what the mob did (or had the intention of doing). Definitely it has been a struggle to stay on track this week.

I wish I could blame that ignorant pos for my eating...but I just love food and I'm a fatty. Waiting for it to be over but trusting that God is in control. ❤️

I grew up in northern virginia and live in DC now and let me tell you my diet was SHOT the entirety of last week. Its very scary in the area right now - and the non focus on food is completely understandable. Focus on yourself Shir! ❤️

Thanks for the politics on a health site. Geez.

Well said Whipnet. Can we leave off the politics and religion and focus on health topics?
13 Jan 21 by member: russkey2
Hey @whipnet & russkey2 . While I'm not a fan of politics, shirfleur can post what she wants on her page and you can scroll by if it bothers you. Secondly, psycology and healthy eating are intetwined so if external factors are affecting her eating, she had every right to journal it and seek support.

Sk.17 For heaven's sake. Did I say shirfleur didn't have the right to say what she wants? No, I didn't. I simply said that let's focus on health topics on a HEALTH site instead of politics and religion. Just as I can pass by shirfleur's topics if I don't like them, you can simply pass by my comments if they bother you.
