redgirl1974's Journal, 10 December 2010

Went over the book with Mike last nite and I think he "gets it". he had a lot of questions about milk and bread, so to make it easy on him, we are going to slowly take away the "bad carbs. " Our goal is to have him on Atkins by January 1st. He is really exited about the possibilities. I bought him a new shirt a size smaller last night and he was really motivated!
As for me, I got some great motivation, when my nest friend came over last night. Hadn't seen him in about 3 weeks, and his first words when he walked in were "OMG! where is the other half of you? " I was so happy!! Its only been 24lbs, but I guess it really makes a difference!! He told me he didn't think I was going to stick with it, and he was so surprised that I did. It just seems like the possibilities are endless now!! I actually think i can make it to my short term goal by my birthday!!

Thanks Helen. He really is very special to me. His dad and I divorced when he was 11 months old, and then we moved out of town, so its was just him and me up until 5 years ago when I remarried, so we pretty much do everything together, just the 3 of us. My older son decided to move back in with their dad last year and Mike didnt want to go. I think he misses his brother and that sometimes "triggers" his over eating. But , on a lighter note, their talk almost everyday and Jay really is a good big brother! He is always encouraging him to work out. Over the holiday Jay will be back and we plan on working out together. I am talking off 12/23 -1/3 to spend time with them. Thanks for the support again.

What a wonderful comment from your nest friend. With you guiding you son, he will succeed just like his mom. You should be very proud of yourself. You also have a great weekend and please keep us posted on the progress.:)

What awesome journal posts. You are doing so well and your son seems like he will do well too. It isn't easy, being 13 is difficult enough without weight issues and trying to lose weight. I was a fat kid, have been fat all my life. I can remember how awful it was to be the fat kid at school. I sure hope he takes it all on board and flies with it causes if he can conquer this now he will be so much better off. You are doing an amazing job with him. Congrats on being in 'underland' under 200 lb. No wonder you feel good. And how nice of your friend to tell you how good you look - its so affirming when people notice and compliment you. Just lifts you up. And your other son coming home for the holidays is definitely something to look forward to.
