LauPug1's Journal, 04 December 2010

Well, my daughter, grandson and I ventured to the mall this morning. I was very suprised that there weren't many people out. Must be they fear the storm and would get stuck out in it. All the better for me. Again, no one tried to take anything out of my cart. Other than that, not much happening. I only have a few more things to get and I will be DONE!!!! That will be a relief to me. My husband and I have his Company Christmas party tonight. Not really looking forward to that. Last year we went and I had one alcoholic drink and Art doesn't drink at all. My favorite is a White Russian, but this year, I don't know what I will have. I've not even checked to see what is acceptable for OWL. I'm not much for wine, so if anyone has suggestions, I'll take it. I suppose I could do shots, but I would be under the table at 2.lol We aren't drinkers. Sorry Isabel that I didn't get my journal done earlier, but we wanted to beat the rush at the mall and when we got there, there was not rush at all.lol Hope everyone has a great weekend and stay safe.:)

Have you tried cheats gin and tonic? You put the tonic and ice in a glass and paint the rim of the glass with the gin! Tastes the same! Maybe it would work with what ever you choose to drink!

Bren, I know what you mean because I don't like to venture out when the weather is nasty either. I so like your new pic. It is great. Now I can put your face with your messages.:)

Thanks it was taken at market where I was trying to sell the aprons , pocketbooks and art I did. No luck there, everyone was buying yard art that was made from radiators from the junkyard. I guess no one wanted to be reminded that they had to cook. Ha Ha!!!

Evening - sorry I am late too. I don't usually get on early on the week-end. I go to my sisters and clean on alternate Saturdays. Glad you are almost done with the Xmas shopping. Me too. I went last night and again tonight and I will lay everything out on Monday ('cause I'm off work - hurrah) and get a better idea if I'm truly done or not. I hope so, cause I don't really enjoy Xmas much though I must say this year I feel better mentally at this time than I usually do. Hubby too. We were both commenting on that last night - that we can't believe how 'happy' we are - usually we are just plain horrible at this time of year.

I might be too late with advice for alcohol on OWL, but will post just in case. I checked in a book on which Collette, the Atkins nutritionist, collaborated, "The All-New Atkins Advantage." (I highly recommend the book, BTW.) In it, they say that 4 oz of a dry wine is OK, but steer clear of dessert-type wines and sherry. There's only a 1 carb difference between red and white wine. As far as mixed drinks are concerned, the higher the proof, the higher the alcohol content, but no carbs. HOWEVER...watch out for mixers! Regular soda and the juices (typically orange, cranberry and grapefruit) pack a high sugar content with the carbs and tonic has something like 15 g of carbs in just 4-5 oz., the typical amount you'd find in a gin and tonic. So, the recommendation was to go with seltzer or sugar-free tonic water. Hope you have fun at the party, alcohol or not.
