Densible's Journal, 29 October 2008

I ate mac and cheese last night! I am so happy I did as it showed me that I really do not like mac and cheese and do not care if I ever have it again. This realization was helped along by the fact that I was ill all night-nausea and horrible tummy gymnastics. I went out to dinner with a friend in town for a few days filming a commercial. I NEVER go out to dinner anymore so was really looking forward to "cheating".

The place we went to is very well reviewed. I may not go out to restaurants 3-4 times a week as in days past but I am a foodie and know all the trendy/best/weird places in LA. When not on fatsecret journaling about all the food I ate, I am on a food blog reading/writing about all the food I can't eat. Nice balance.

I knew in advance I was going to order the crab cakes and split a side of m&C with my super fit, never gains weight, can eat anything, full head of naturally blonde hair best friend. I ate about a third and thought it was excellent. After the first few bites though, the excitement level waned considerably and I began to have visions of sauteed spinach or baked squash dancing in my head. Lesson learned.

It's amazing how our food tastes change after shifting to a different way of eating. Last weekend, I ate pancakes and Texas fries which I hadn't had for a looooong time, and it just wasn't as thrilling as I thought it would be! I used to go out to restaurants a lot too, but not any more. You just can't know exactly what you're getting in restaurant food! I noticed in your profile that you are hypothyroid. I am too! That really throws a curve ball into our weight loss efforts too, doesn't it. Well, now that you had your cheat day and got it out of your system, you can get back on track and move on!

It's nice you've been brainwashed in a GOOD way! Sorry your splurge wasn't too enjoyable.

I've also realized that when I allow myself a "cheat" on some food I don't allow myself anymore, I too discover that it just didn't seem worth it. I tried a "plank" on my hubbys plate (sort of french fry but cut wider... use to love them with "fry sauce"... but I only ate one and realized it just wasn't the same. All I thought about was how I was going to hurt my heart health over "that"!! Amazing, we are becoming adults aren't we!

Sounds like you had a good time with your best friend, anyway. I take my mother to buffet every Wednesday and they have mac & cheese on the menu. I used to think that it was the best that I ever tasted, but I haven't had it in over a year. I no longer desire it.
