well, back from the Dr.'s visit...just perimenopause, that's all! no big deal...get used to it, it'll be around awhile. :( ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? And I had to pay for this appt! unbelieveable. she gave me a prescription for a hormone called Provera (?) i think...to take for 10 days. Said it should help stop everything, and 'hopefully' things will go back to normal. Well, my husband doesn't want me taking anything on some dr.'s 'hopes' for me. way too many cancer questions related to taking hormones. he thinks I should just wait it out...since most women go through this...my body will likely 'right' itself on it's own...(that's his logic). I don't know what to do?? Not to mention one of the listed side effects is weight gain!! oh, boy!! anybody know if this is common w/ 10 days use...or if you have to be on this long term to gain weight w/it.??? such fun, really...NOT!

I have never taken Provera, but has your doctor ever discussed an endometrial ablation? I am also in menopause (I am 41),and have been for a couple of years now. I had the ablation done about a year ago, and I get no 'friend' or symptoms of the 'friend' anymore. Just hot flashes now! I did take a drug, but it started with an "M" (can't remember the name), and it made me gain weight. I gained about 10 lbs in 15 days. It was a drug given to cancer patients to help them be hungry so the weight gain was understandable...but my doc also believed it would stop my 'friend' who I had for almost a year straight with maybe a day or two break here and there. Didn't work, so the next step was the ablation and it fixed the entire issue. Good luck with your decision on the drug

I had the ablation with a DNC and it lightened my period tremendously! Only now it comes whenever it pleases no telling when it's going to happen so the Doc is trying me on Progesterone for 10 days a month hoping to make it predictable. So far I had a pretty bad reaction to it last month so it may not work.... next step Hysterectomy! My Mom and ladies I know who've had one say it's the best thing they ever did! They can leave your ovaries so you still have horomones just no monthly, weekly, bi weekly.... mess

ugh...I am 44 and my acupunturist is treating me for my "bad time" That's what he likes to call my early onset of menopause. My periods are all over the map, but thankfully still only 5-6 days long...it would be pretty dangerous for anyone around me if I was on it any longer than that! I feel for you and hope whatever decision you nake it gives you some relief!

I just read about a novel's worth of info on Provera or (medroxyprogesterone)...and I will NOT be taking this medication. Suck as it may...I will leave my body to what it needs to - but I am not enchancing my risks of heart disease and cancer to "see" if this works. As Raelene said above, it generally doesn't work for most people on such a short term dose anyway. Scary stuff. One day at a time, I guess...

I hope you are able to find a resolve soon, saying a prayer for some relief soon. :)

I have a friend who was having 60-90 day periods and her doctor prescribed that..it would stop the bleeding..for about 11 days, then it would come back. I don't think I would take it, I would suggest you go to the library or bookstore and check out a book called "What your Dr. May Not Tell You About Premenopause." The authors are John R. Lee MD, Jesse Hanley, MD and Virginia Hopkins.

As I said above, I did a bunch of reading...and I am NOT taking it. I decided to let nature do it's thing...and live w/ the inconvenience. Right now it's just an inconvenience. (and that's a blessing.) If it gets to be worse, more than that...or more and more symptoms show up, I will seek out a gyn that specializes in menopause and natural therapies. I don't want synthethic crap in my body. thanks for the tip on the book...I will look into it.

I have to ask, is your doctor and man or a woman and about how old? The only side effect I've had to the ablation procedure is being so happy to have spotting rather than heavy periods and now they are regular. The doctor I found was a woman in her forties who specialized in mid-life.

My dr. is a SHE, and she too is in her late 40's...but she is not a Gyn., but rather an Internist.

Ok, I was just wondering because my HE doctors told me, nothing was medically wrong that it was just where I was in life. I switched and my new woman doctor told me I didn't have to miserable.
