Saturday's (8/9/08) update:

Today will count as my flex-point spending day and weekend-festivity enjoyment day. I did fine on eating well earlier in the day, and was trying to run around getting stuff done before going out in the evening.

I hit an unpected glitch and my schedule got thrown by an hour or so. So by around 5 pm, I was thinking I won't have enough time to workout, cook and eat something, shower, and get ready to go out. I'd have typically bailed on working out at this point. However, in an uncharacteristic manner--and something I'm proud of myself for doing so--I recalculated everything, and forced myself to go for a "quickie" workout--did 30 mins of fast walk/run on the treadmill, was tired and it seemed harder than usual, but I burned a good 220 k, so it was better than nothing.

There was no time to actually cook anything, so I jsut settled for a few almonds and my protein mix + soy milk. (Also, took a protein bar to go "for in case of emergency later").

I had two events to go to last night. First, a house party...I wasn't planning on eating or drinking anything there, but did end up sampling stuff anyway. Good choices mostly: a greek salad--put very little of the dressing, some spinach dip with carrots--skipped the bread or chips instead, skipped the pizza, all the wonderful desserts, and had a little bit of a corn salad and a little bit of the baked beans. My friend had made an awesome sangria--so I had half a glass of that---I had planned on being very judicious and selective about what and how much I'd drink. I didn't touch any beer or wine there.

This first party was mostly couples. Next stop was a dueling-piano bar with my other mostly-single friends. Lot of rowdy singing, drinking etc...I refrained from all of that, but just enjoyed the "sights" and good, clean fun had from laughing a lot!

After that we went to a club/bar, where I finally decided to let my hair down and have ONE drink---the beer looked so inviting! I had missed my Guinness all summer long!! And that's all I nursed the rest of the night...I knew I'd gain a little weight and bloat tomorrow, but I decided to take the calculated risk. Other than that, it was a fun night, fun crowd, great outdoors patio, and among the last of beautiful summer nights!!

I must say, though, I was feeling a little guilty about hanging out last night with all the stuff I still had to do at home, and the "singles" were the usual ones, so it was a tad disappointing not to be able to meet someone new, so in that sense I felt the evening would have been more productive getting stuff done at home. Add to that, the drinking, staying out late, getting up later the next day, and wasting more time as a result the next day, compounds the guilt in wasting time on such evenings. The 20s are so done! In feeling this way, I guess I AM feeling my age!! I feel ungracious for not appreciating such evenings. But I'm also surprised that the others don't seem to be as fazed by this same ol' hanging out in groups, in clubs, and bars!

I didn't get home until about 3 am, and was a little hungry by then. But I am proud of myself for avoiding the typical after-drinking munchy-attack binging. I got to bed around 3.30 am or so; and woke up late today (around 11 am or so).

Oh! The estimates yesterday:
Points: about 30
Exercise mins: 30
Water: about 3.5 liters
Drinks: 2
Weight next morning: 158 (about half a pound gained--so not too shabby, but as a result I don't have ANY loss to report this whole week!!!).

It's raining, cold, bleak, and a real downer today :(
158.0 lb Lost so far: 20.0 lb.    Still to go: 28.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 1.4 lb a week

For all that partying you did, gaining only 1/2 lb.is really good! Kudos for getting that exercise in too! :)

Hey, there, girlfriend! Don't be so hard on yourself! You are entitled to one night of fun a week and you've been very restrained lately so this was NOT a wasted time. You did FANTASTIC with forcing yourself to workout beforehand AND with all of the healthier choices you made throughout the night. Deadlines come and go but good times with friends are the precious jewels that make life worth living. No one ever reflected on their death bed, wishing they had worked more!

I'm so proud of yourself! I thought you did an excellent job. Good work getting in a workout before going out. Great food choices. Also liked your attitude about the following day. You are not 'dieting' you are living life! Good Amee! =)

Love that you went and worked out when you had already talked yourself out of it. You have to enjoy life too so don't feel guilty for having a night out.

I think the plusses WELL outweighed the minuses for your night out! You exercised first - FANTASTIC! You set limits and pretty much stuck with them. For a fun night out, you did an awesome job! You could have used the social things as an excuse to totally blow it, but you didn't. Good for you!

Firstly.... may I join you for a moment of silent appreciation of the great pint of Guinness, which I too am denying myself, we should form a special support group! And I say... look here young lady... NOOOOOOOOO guilt for going out and actually celebrating life with friends and laughter.. NEVER feel guilty about that. And honestly... the more you enjoy yourself and your life - the luckier you will be! honestly... *s*
