kingkeld's Journal, 06 April 2013

Good morning!

Well, turns out I found time to write a little journal entry this morning after all.

I'm at the hotel breakfast buffet, wife is reading news and playing games on her tablet, and I figured I might as well do an entry.

Yesterday was amazing.

I went to the surgeon's meeting. I was pretty confident that I would qualify for the surgery, but you know how it is - you're always unsure until you get the verdict.

Well, the moment she saw me she said "Wow. You have changed significantly". This was even before she saw me without the shirt.

Long story short, she immediately qualified me for the little corrective surgery on my stomach, and also a tiny liposuction on my lower back. Nothing major, but it'll help the final look quite a bit.

It will take several months before I will have the surgery done. Maybe early fall. This is good. I wouldn't mind being just a bit lighter for it, or at least have a little less fat. It's no longer about the weight, it's about the fat.

So yeah - all I gotta do is maintain weigh now. It won't kill me to drop a kilo or two still, but there is no rush, and I think I can just ease them down over a while. I feel that I got it now, and that I can do this. Maintenance is go!

So, yesterday, wife and I went to celebrate.

We went to Bones, a superb rib house. Had ribs and a baked potato. Wife has been wanting the all-you-can-eat ice cream bar, so we got a ticket each. Ended up concluding that all one could eat was one portion! :-)

Afterwards, we too the train to Copenhagen, checked unto a charming old hotel, and went for a drink. We don't go to bars. Ever. I think this is the first time in maybe two years. It was before I went on the weight loss journey.

Well, Wife had a Pina Colada and a Long Island Ice tea, I had a Bloody Mary and a Long Island Ice Tea. We probably had them a little too quick, because we ended up way drunker than expected. This was probably good, because I would have needed another one when I got the bill... The four drinks came out to a total of 75 US dollars! Now, that alone is a good reason to not spend your calories on alcohol.

It was a really fun day out though, and I think both Wife and I needed a day off from EVERYTHING.

So, now it's Saturday morning. I had a roll and a slice of rye bread for breakfast, along with 6 slices of ham cold cuts. The breakfast buffet here at the hotel is by no means impressive, but it's adequate for most people. I do miss my eggs, and I had to add all the ham - I literally took all that was there! - to get some protein. It's was filling, and not too much, and cost me 350 calories. Not bad. It'll easily carry me through to lunch.

Since we're gonna be out on the town today, I'm counting my calorie intake. It's a good way to not let things run crazy.

The weather is amazing today, a few clouds but nothing that even resembles rain. We're gonna go shopping, and we talked about going sightseeing a little. Maybe go see the statue of The Little Mermaid - one of the most famous icons of Denmark. It doesn't get much more touristy around here.

The weight today? I have no idea. I am not by my scale. I'm sure I gained weight though. First of all it was essentially Indulgence Day yesterday. Second of all I just had a three kilo drop over the last two days. I'm absolutely convinced that I'm heavier today.

It's not important though, it'll even out over the week, as long as I keep doing what I'm supposed to do. And I WILL do this. I feel way too good to NOT do right.

I really like my new lifestyle.

I had actually but the Chris Powell workout on my tablet for this morning, but I could not do it. First of all, there is not enough floor space in the hotel room. Second, my back is aching, something that bothered me a bit yesterday, but that I think got worse because of the different bed. The bed is fine, just not what I'm used to.

I'll compensate with lots of walking today. It's all good.

Today, I'm thankful for:
- Maintenance!
- The most fun night out in ages!
- Qualifying for surgery!
- NOT being on a 600 calories daily diet any longer. That was tough!
- The outlook to a fun day!
- Confidence that I won't get even close to my allowed calories today. Let's do good!

Have an amazing weekend, my friends! Life is good!

Fantastic that surgeon was impressed.... We don't always realise how far we have come... Great morale booster BUT.... Beware KK... Don't get complacent .... I know you won't (no pressure there LOL). Your weekend sounds great... Have a fab time :-)

That was a painful drink bill, but a rare one, so no harm :)

Pam, I will NOT get complacent. Been there, done that. Too much work getting back on track. It's a lot easier to just STAY on the track, I think. The mission is DEFINITELY to work on getting (even) fitter, and feeling (even) better! I will - WILL - do two low cal days per week, and otherwise stay within the calories that I am allowed at all times. It really shouldn't be hard work to do. I just gotta do it right. And should there be days where I don't do right, then I need to work in the calories, on exercise. :) I will do all I can do accomplish this.

Fist CONGRATS for being a rock star and reaching your goal. And just a quick comment to your calorie count maintenance plan... its scientifically proven people who were previously over weight are required to eat 20% less and work out 20% more than someone who was not ever over weight to maintain the new lower weight. Example, my best girl friend who has always been thin and muscular weighs the same as I do, and we are the same height. If her and I eat the same thing and work out at the same pace I will gain where she will maintain. Nature is cruel but it’s the price we previously fat folks pay for being over indulgent for so many years. That being said, you may want to tweak your calculations to err on the side of caution :(

I'm way ahead of you, Sarah. I have focus on this - and yes, it sucks! There is only one way, though, to find out, and I gotta start somewhere. I am heading out with a slight reduction compared to FULL maintenance. I find FULL maintenance SCARY to just jump into. But then again, all signs from various machines and calculators say I should be able to. I don't know. If I gain, I'll lower the number. If I lose, I'll up it. If I maintain, everything's peachy. I really appreciate the head's up - I think I mentioned something about this issue one of the last days. :)
