FullaBella's Journal, 03 April 2013

If I were writing for a supermarket tabloid instead of my journal the headline would read 'How I lost 90lbs and Nearly Lost my Life.'

Would that interest you enough to buy? Or at the very least, thumb through the pages while you waited in line? Would the story belong in the health section or life stories?

Sigh, I'll stop putzing around and dragging out the drama. But first, an important word from our sponsors.....haha.

One of my customers briefly mistook me for a burglar today. He drove up to my shop as I was leaving; I had my back to him while locking the door and setting the alarm.

When I turned and saw him, his jaw dropped and his face turned red. I'd love to think I'm so goshdarned attractive now that I render men speechless but I know better.

'Al, are you okay?'
'Uh, yeah, uh, whew....'
'What's wrong, Bubba?'
'I thought you were a burglar. All I saw was some guy in a black cap hunched over fiddling with the locks. I was about to shoot him.'

Now, is that customer loyalty or what?

I asked 'you wouldn't have shot someone in the back, would you?'
'Oh, no, but I...'

He didn't finish. I didn't press.

I was actually 'closed' today so that I could run errands. Most of the errands were downtown so I walked to them (yay me as some were at least 8 blocks away one way) and it's a cold dreary day here in Bellawood so I wore a black baseball cap along with my usual attire (black turtleneck and jeans, boots, under denim long sleeve shirt) to avoid having to deal with the anticipated 'bad hair day'. I probably looked more 'wannabethug' than longshoreman with the bill of the cap pulled down to hide my eyes.

I can't help but wonder if I'd been coming IN instead of going OUT how this story would be reading different. But I wasn't so it doesn't but was kind of funny. So like the POLICE or DEA who wear their identity in very large letters on the back of their jackets, I'll guess I'd better get one that read 'YES, IT'S ME' in case any of my other loyal customers who don't recognize me instantly decide to defend my livelihood.

As always, thank you for reading,

Bella

Getting shot in the back is VERY counterproductive when it comes to a weight loss journey. Or at least, so I think. I'm glad things did NOT end in tears.

Bella I am so happy you chose the walking downtown. I have an auntie in new York city who I talked yo yesterday. She walked 35 blocks to see a movie and 35 blocks home. She said she felt so good to just walk. I want to grow up and be her...by the way she is about 5 ft tall and weighs about 170...she has the family ass..lol not a skinny bone in her body. Just healthy strong good for walking body.

Your story reminds me of a commercial I've seen on tv recently where young guys are riding in a convertible with the top down & since its cold they have on ski/winter masks (wool full face with the eyes, nose & mouth cut out) Have you seen it? They stop at a convenience store & one of the guys goes in to get something forgetting that he's wearing the mask. The store clerk of course thinks he's a burglar. The clerk says to him that he doesn't want any trouble & the guy replies that he doesn't either, pays for his stuff & leaves. (sad thing for the commercial sponsor is that I don't even know what they're advertising!) Guess now I'll think they're in Bellawood too:)! (P.S. No matter how cold & dreary it is, don't add a winter full face mask to your wardrobe!)

Lizzy - it's not the neighborhood, he's just a very protective caring customer. He's taught me a lot about personal safety and was just watching out for me.

Keld - LOL - yeah, I think it would a whole new meaning to 'fluid' weight... had me wondering how much a pint of blood weighs :-)

Sharon - I really enjoy walking when I'm not too heavy. I am the kind of person who would thrive in NYC and never own a vehicle. Whenever I gain too much weight it's a stupid cycle - I don't walk because I'm too overweight and I continue to get overweight because I won't walk. 35 blocks though ... whew... that'd put me to the city limits of our small town in HALF that distance, LOL. While she'd probably outpace me, even at 80, I felt pretty good that at 50 I outpaced someone in their 30's back in Dec. My grandson still outwalks me but he's a foot taller than me - he's got the legs on his side :-)

Rubie Sue - I know, right?! I should gather testimonials, huh. "I love Bella's business so much I'd kill anyone who'd mess with it..." Let's see THAT on Angie's list :-)

Angel - I think the commercial is a volkswagon convertible; some sort of convertible. Believe it or not I had a customer walk in with the ski mask once too because he'd been riding a motorcycle in the winter... once I determined it was 'him' and regained my ability to breathe I took his picture and showed him to him. His response? "Oh... no wonder the lady at the bank was so weird..." Ya think???
