For anyone who lifts who may get frustrated with the scale not moving as fast as you want, this can explain the stall. Gaining muscle is never a bad thing for fat loss and fat loss maintenance, on the contrary. Untrained = Someone who is new to lifting. A beginner. Trained = These are intermediately trained lifters. Usually, they will have 2+ years of experience with strength training. They need to have a certain strength level for 1RM (I calculate this myself based on subject body weight, lean body mass, strength level, and training experience). Advanced = These people are usually athletes or bodybuilders. They are very strong in relation to body weight, and usually have a lot of lean mass (i.e. rugby players). Or, they could be bodybuilders with a lot of lean mass and low body fat %. https://sci-fit.net/bulking-deficit-gaining/ ^there is a lot more at the link. Great read!

Slow cut for me with the added protein enabling strength gains whilst doing so even as an advanced lifter.

I think dirty bulking means a huge surplus, you're gaining too slowly, I'd say you're lean bulking all the way.

Well, with the added protein I'm getting super fat cause we all know protein makes you fat, just look at my profile pic(:P), so 172 seems like a loooong ways off if I even need to go that low anymore.

Good info. Last time I did a moderate cut seriously was in December January. Usually others over eat and get fat at this time of the year lol

You're right, V! I used to be among them. That changed last winter, finally. I expect to keep getting leaner this winter.

I'm doing fine! 3 day weekend coming up. I think we're doing the pumpkin patch. Little mini vacays do help! The gym does as well. Oh, and bundt cakes!

Chris I don’t do it as you or D do, I just get more mindful about what I eat and track my macros (higher protein lower carb) plus add supplements. Also I was training at least 4 times/week last time. I don’t have this luxury now :(

I think I did a quick cut but now I'm on a slow cut that I think should be quick. IDK...

Nan DP you are on your journey to get some lbs down. Bulking & cutting will be later, different process because people start from skinny or normal weight. It’s fine tuning. Just keep eating mindfully and exercise. No need to rush.

Cutting just means she is losing fat while gaining/maintaining muscle.

Her intake has stayed the same give or take since April so the deficit is no longer as large since she is down 50+ pounds. Now more of the energy/protein is going to strength and muscle building causing a scale stall while she loses inches. The process is slow after losing 20% body weight but each pound is more meaningful.

Oh gosh D you had to argue with me 😝 I say, get in decent shape first and fine tune later, aka bulking and cutting. No one starts bulking when they are already big. Basta cosi.

No duh... That's why I'm not bulking, V.

Yeah, not arguing, just stating that she is cutting. Ok, just call it losing fat if you want, it's cutting to me. Carving our bodies into stone. :P

So I guess I’m doing an untrained S-L-O-W cut. I know I complain about how slow my weight is going down but I am really happy seeing my body measurements change, so I know it’s working, even though it’s painfully slow sometimes. Great post!
