mossum's Journal, 26 July 2010

So I tried an experiment.

When I got back from visiting my personal trainer, Landon, I weighed 161. That following week I kept within my calorie limit (under 1400), drank lots of water, and dabbled with the elliptical. That week I gained three pounds.

This past week I ate whatever I wanted to, including candy, cheesy-sour-creamy potatoes, etc. I didn't exercise at all. Plus I drank a few cocktails over the weekend and had a small glass of wine nearly every evening. I've gained nothing.

I wouldn't say "discouraged" is the right word. It's more like "flummoxed." Does my body just want to be 164 regardless?? Or is that an excuse?

Sigh...
164.0 lb Lost so far: 14.0 lb.    Still to go: 19.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Losing weight isn't an exact science. It's important to stay consistent. Eat healthy and exercise. It's not just about the scale, but losing fat. So concentrate on eating a healthy diet. Plenty of lean protein, dairy, fruits and veggies. There is truth to "you are what you eat." Plan a few treats to keep yourself happy (like a glass of wine with a little chocolate a couple times of week). It takes a lot of self discipline and hard work to get our bodies in to shape. Much of it is based on our diets (both caloric intake and "what" we eat. Maybe that week you gained was because you had too much sodium, sore muscles from exercise, hormones, stress, medications, etc. So many things can effect the scales and we might not understand it, but if you stay consistent and keep going, the scale will move downward. You might need to get strict with your eating. You could also try a week of eating 5 or 6 smaller meals with a little protein at each meal. Our bodies can only process a certain amount of food at a time, so eating smaller meals throughout the day, can be a good thing. Get some protein at each meal. For example, yogurt with fruit, string cheese and apple, salad with chicken, veggies and hummus, etc. you need to keep changing things up and trying different things. Good luck!

Some times your body just hates you, like mine hated me for a month. Or maybe Steve is slipping you calories in your sleep because he's afraid you're gonna lose your curves like Koby says to me all the time. OORRRR maybe you sleep eat. I'd set up skype to watch you in bed, but fear that would end up scarring me some how. ;)

Hi Mimi, thanks for the Virus help you gave Brookie. Music by Elton John Lyrics by Bernie Taupin From the soundtrack Friends I hope the day will be a lighter highway For friends are found on every road Can you ever think of any better way For the lost and weary travellers to go Making friends for the world to see Let the people know you got what you need With a friend at hand you will see the light If your friends are there then everything's all right It seems to me a crime that we should age These fragile times should never slip us by A time you never can or shall erase As friends together watch their childhood fly I love this Elton John Song, I'm back! TOWANDA!!
