I'm back!! What a weekend!!!

I feel good about myself, I had a very laid-back weekend with my nieces and other family and spent some great time with great people. But mostly, I am grateful that everyone I know is safe and alive, despite having tragedy strike many of their lives...

A tornado hit a small town only a few miles from my home. I'm sure many of you may have seen it on the news - Parkersburg, Iowa, a town of only about 1800 was hit very hard. It is such a unique, quaint little community with many beautiful, old houses - and all of them are gone. Six people were killed in Iowa, four of them in Parkersburg. I have many friends that have been effected, a few of them in the hospital and everyone I know that lives there has completely lost their home. But everyone is alive.

I just got back in town today, but I will be there helping with the cleanup for the rest of the week. Please, everyone, keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

After Saturday my little life goals didn't seem so daunting. I didn't do so well on watching what I ate this weekend. But better than I have done in the past. I really am conscious about how certain foods affect my body and I find myself avoiding them. I am recommitted this week to making a difference - in my own life and in the lives of others that need my help right now.

I hope everyone had a weekend that they can be thankful for!

So sorry to hear of the tragedy in Parkersburg. I did see the news coverage of the tornados that hit Iowa and it looked to be devastating. My prayers are with them. When something like this happens it makes all our other problems seem quite small.

What an awful thing Paige... being across the pond I did not hear about this but will certainly light a candle and send thoughts and prayers their way... and you are right, events like this put it all into perspective. Its a salient lesson as to why we should smile daily and give thanks for lil things.. best wishes in all you are doing to help out...

I am sorry to hear about the tornadoes near you. I know how hard it is, the town I used to live in was hit pretty bad back in 2002, and I know how hard the clean up is. I am glad that you will be donating your time to helping. BTW I did make up that recipe... and I am glad I did... SO GOOD!

" I really am conscious about how certain foods affect my body and I find myself avoiding them." .... this sentence will be repeated in my head until it's cozy in my brain and I understand!! I will pray for the people affected by the weather.... so sad. Glad you have been doing so well on your diet!!

it's amazing what mother nature can do to our lives. the news is full of natural disasters of late, and I'm so thankful that I am healthy and that my family is too. My heart goes out to all those who are suffering. Stay strong for your friends who need you right now! bless you!

Living in tornado alley is taken for granted by so many of us until the devastation hits close to home. I live in Kansas and when Greensburg was hit last year wiping out the entire town and now the same thing in Iowa you gain a new perspective on the power of the storms. I pray for all of the people affected by the recent tragedies and pray for your safety as you help clean up.
