It is insidious, isn't it. I had the thought last night to chuck the entire dieting thing and just enjoy eating everything: desserts, bread, pasta, potatoes, every high carb. We who are addicted will probably have to fight this the rest of our lives. Now, I am at this point doing this for the sake of my brain, since I am losing memory, and Alzheimer is up to 50% of the American population by age 85. Yes, it is fun to wear some of my old clothes, even if I have to alter them. But I NEED MY BRAIN. I am fiercely independent and want to slow down any negative thing happening in my brain. So, for today, I can continue.

I will splurge Monday, after the funeral, on Calamari, and maybe even flour-less chocolate cake. May I say without denigrating the Catholic Church, that my husband and I were invited to carry the “gifts” down the aisle to the alter? In the message on the phone, I guessed the gifts were the money for the priests to help pray my husband's sister out of purgatory, since I didn't know any better. For his other sister we were repeatedly asked to give money for that, but we are not Catholic, and we chose to send a big easel spray of flowers instead. Well, my husband, being born in Italy was Catholic, but does not practice it at all. Since I wasn't giving money to help pray this sister out of purgatory I felt funny carrying the money down the aisle. When her husband called back, he snickered at my assumption of the “gift” and explained it was the Communion elements, and no, my husband could not do it by himself. He was offering, graciously, for both of us, to carry the wine and bread for Communion, to involve us in the Mass. I explained how I had taken Communion at the other sister's Mass and later in talking to the Priest, he said if he knew I was not Catholic, he would have refused me. It seems incongruous to me, for me to be taking the Communion bread down the aisle to the alter for others to partake of when I am not allowed to be a part of it. When my husband learned of all this, he said he did not want to do it, because you cannot take Communion until you confess your sins to the Priest, and he did not believe in that. He said one can confess your sins directly to Jesus in your closet. I liked that. Unfortunately, he also said he will confess his sins to Jesus when he sees Him. I suggested it would be a good idea to do it before that, and he said “NO”! My husband handled the call to his brother-in-law well.

The funeral is Monday at 10AM. Our flowers are ordered to satisfy both my husband and our daughter which is a load off my mind, with all the going back and forth. Either the family is not going to be together for a meal afterwards, or we are not invited. We don't care, and we will go out for lunch. It's quiet here, and we are both sympathetic to each other. Happy Easter. He is risen! (Response) He is risen indeed!

Hey, we do, "He is risen! (Response) He is risen, indeed!" in our church, too! I just had to type Alan's sermon up for him (from a copy) because it wasnt in the computer yet, and he is hurting really badly because of the storm going through. The message for Sunday is "My Redeemer Liveth!" I hope I won't have trouble paying attention in church on Sunday since I have not only read, but TYPED, the sermon myself already, LOL! Good idea on "the gifts;" it seems dichotomous to take them down the aisle if you cannot even partake of them. I attended my first Catholic funeral a few weeks ago, and it was really quite lovely! I don't know if they're all that beautiful, or if it was just because the deceased's husband was a clergyman there - but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I've partaken of Communion at two or three Catholic services, with the permission of the priests involved. Some are willing to welcome all who want to celebrate the Eucharist with them. As I'm an Episcopalian, the words and moves are quite familiar.

Phew. Good. Glad we got that all cleared up. Canon 905 is a great reference for anyone considering a review of Canons.
