Today is day 13 Induction of the Atkins diet. I've been putting some thought into what's next for me, since tomorrow is the last day that I have to watch my carb intake so carefully. I didn't have to think long about it because I've never felt better! I'm not irritated about the lack of food choices, minus carbohydrates. I haven't ran out of things to eat yet!

I'm going to continue to stay the course. I can't even believe that it's been almost 2 weeks already! I really don't think I'll have much difficulty avoiding carbs anymore, now that I've been through detox! To prove that I'm cured of my carb addiction, I have something interesting to tell you about.

When I go into the kitchen I can smell this incredibly strong SWEET sugary smell coming from our pantry. To be more specific, it reminds me of doughnuts or danishes, which immediately conjures up the picture in my mind as soon as I step into the kitchen! You know what it is??? Bread! Just ordinary whole grain bread, and one loaf of french bread!! We've always kept the bread in there so nothing has changed in that regard. I almost went searching around in there last night to find what the source was, thinking maybe it was a bag of apples or something. I asked hubby if he could smell the sugar factory when he came into the kitchen and he looked at me like I was crazy!

OMG! I have to tell you one more thing before I shut up finally! LOL I gave up gum! Before, I could easily eat a pack a day if I wanted to! At one point I was eating about 4 packs a week, for sure! I have learned in Dr. Atkins book that when you consume artificial sugar, our body will automatically assume it's pure sugar and will release insulin to convert it to glucose for burning OR storage. Since it's really NOT sugar, we still get the dose of insulin which lowers our blood sugar and that sends us into hunger mode again!

Have a terrific day my buddies!
hugs!

I remember that about gum. Annoying, isn't it! I know what you mean about the smell of sugar and starch. It all smells so artificial and industrial to me. Have you smelled sugar lately? I mean pure sugar. It smells like a chemical...well, that is because it is. Have a great day.

I know exactly what you mean about he smell of bread. I notice especially with white bread. I thought it smelled like cheesecake the first time I noticed it. You are doing so well!! I wish I could say the same. And by the way - thank you ALWAYS for your comments. You always make me laugh.

Isn't it funny how we suddenly notice these things when we give up something! I've given up sugar in things like coffee and on breakfast cereals... but have definitely noticed a really yucky sweet smell if I go anywhere near the stuff. I also generally try to avoid sweeteners where possible and really do now believe that there is something in that it makes you hungry. Even though I'm doing WW, I now try to eat lower carbs. Lol... if only I could give up pasta, but in compromise I now halve my portions. You keep up the great work though as you're doing fantastic. :o)
