It's understandable when people say that eating too much glucose or even protein, in a meal knocks us out of Ketosis, but what do they mean that we have to start all over? Are they speaking of the several hours it takes to use up the glucose, or does it have some kind of longer effect? Have been eating Keto for about 6 weeks. Doing IF daily from 16 to 18 hours, occasionally 20. Had Chinese “Walnut Shrimp” and Hot & Sour soup yesterday. Only had 771 calories the day before then fasted for 16 hours so was pretty hungry. The shrimp dish was really too sweet, if I ever order it again I will order the sauce on the side. Did not eat any of the pineapple in it, and only 1 walnut since they were sweetened, no rice or chips. Ate 9 of the 15 shrimp. I am writing about it because I have mixed feelings. Since I wanted it, I told myself that the slight Tempura style breading wasn't that big a deal. Had read that it could even be good on Keto to shake it up once in a while. Even though I was hungry 3 or 4 hours later, I did not have any dinner because of this lunch, but just started my daily fast early. Wouldn't the glucose wear off in 3 or 4 hours? Have found that when I eat here, only having soup and garlic sauce on fish or shrimp, and not even eating it all, my weight goes up a lb or more. I joined a challenge Jan 1, to not have any junk food for 1 month. Was this sauce or meal junk food? Fasted 22 hours.

You are mostly right; but keto adaptation is a 6 week to 6 months process. The body will eagerly grab any carbs you eat, brings blood glucose readings up, and reduces ketone production.

Hi Snowwhite, you are mostly right. However keto adaptation is a slow process and having excess carbs and sugars, causes interruption. Best to wait until after you have been doing keto for over 6 months, before you do carb ups. If you are T2D like me, carb ups aren't a great idea even then, unless you are good with using T2D medications.
