cocobutt's Journal, 14 August 2012

I'm going to sound like a broken record in my gratitude diary. But the older I get, the more grateful I am to feel good and be pain free. At our new residence here, we've met all our neighbors and most of them are at least 20 years older than we are. We were the geezers back on our old street... now we're the youngsters. ha! I'm impressed with our older neighbors here. They all seem to be fairly active and sharp even in their 80s. Hope it's something in the water.

Did go to my parents' house yesterday to watch a documentary about Frank Lloyd Wright. It was pretty dry, but informative. It was my dad's birthday, so mom brought out the ice cream and we all indulged. I had a 1.4 mile hilly walk this morning, but I'm sure it barely put a dent in those calories! Mr Coco said my mom likes to eat vicariously through her children... all those things she is not supposed to have because she is borderline diabetic.

The headline in today's news was that my state is the nation's 4th fattest. When I go to the store, I'd guess the ratio of fat to average sized people is about 50-50 these days. The way I've been adding pounds, I feel like I've crossed over to join the statistic that ranks us 4th.

But I can start over today. I had my yogurt and decaf tea for breakfast. I'm wondering if it would be possible to eat a hearty lunch and then eat just a yogurt at night like I do for breakfast almost every morning. It would certainly save money.

2:57pm -- had a half-sandwich and soup for lunch with dark chocolate squares for dessert. I'm actually very full. Thinking about foraging in the fridge for grapes or cherries, but don't really need to. I'm still going to my friend Mar's for BBQ night, but re-reading my oldest journal posts is making me stop and think about how many years and months I've had this same behavior. I really am not interested in eating BBQ tonight, so why should I? It has just been a bad habit. I need another plan. I'll get a Greek salad instead.

Try having oatmeal at dinner, its high in calorie and pretty much filling. I eat in the morning with yogurt and turkey sand. and yougurt for lunch. I have the single serving popcirn, and then a hearty dinner. but that is usually because I have burned away most of what I eat throughout the day at the gym. I have read your blogs and you are an inspiration. Take one day at a time and be patient.

Thanks, Melmill! And thanks for the buddy request. I had been meaning to go back and review where I was this time last year and even in 2010 when I started. It is shocking to think that 2 years have gone by and I'm not at my goal, but I'm not going to give up either. Re-reading my journals has renewed my enthusiasm for sticking to it. And your post has encouraged me!

Yes we can start over today. Something I really need to do. I have been at a standstill for the last 4 months, haven't gained but haven't lost. I love reading your posts, it's nice to know I'm not the only one out here struggling with this stuff. Thanks again for the posts and here's to a new day!
