Getting together with work friends tonight to celebrate the completion of earned degrees and certifications for a couple of the gals. Our party coordinator selected a restaurant that is perfect for all of us! Many of us are watching our weight and the rest are already fit and trim, so no one wants a giant "Claim Jumper" type meal. Check out the menu at this place: https://www.seasons52.com/happy-hour/ca/costa-mesa-restaurant/4513 Happy hour pricing, yummy food, and a nice selection of low-cal food! I love that the menu is on-line so we can get an idea of what we'd like to eat tonight and plan our day's calories accordingly. NO reason to go off the rails!

Last night I had a couple of glasses of wine at a friend's house, then she ordered a pizza. I suggested just one meat (she picked sausage) and a thin crust, then we loaded up the veggies. We ordered a salad, too. Her hubby, who has lost 50 pounds doing a keto diet, got an order of chicken wings and salad. I had two good-sized pieces of pizza, a lot of salad, and the wine, and still stayed under my RDI for the day. I'm finding that I don't have to give up good times with friends as long as I have self-control and willpower. The best thing is that I really didn't need to exercise any willpower last night. I've been doing a good job of keeping my portion sizes realistic so that I didn't crave more than I ate. TRAIN THE BRAIN!!! And train the stomach to recognize appropriate portion sizes :)

It's almost like it's "Un-American" to not over-indulge. Portion sizes at restaurants are enormous and many of us were taught to be good little plate cleaners when we were young. For me, being able to see the menu ahead of time helps me plan, keeps me from being seduced by the good smells and sights at the restaurant, and plan my eating that day so I can enjoy myself that night. If I can't get away from a big portion restaurant, I always ask for a take-away box with my meal so I can divide it before I even get started. I also get a salad first so I can fill up a little on something I know is okay before diving into garlic mashed potatoes :)

I hate going to a new restaurant and not knowing what to expect. Everyone else is already ordering and I feel rushed so then I end up ordering something I shouldn't. That's the reason I go online and if they don't have their menu posted, I try to change the destination. Hubby says just order something, but that 'something' could blow a whole week or mores worth of dieting and then I get pissed. So now, they better have the menu online or I'm not going. Many places are starting to post calories but what about we people who also try to balance fat and carbs? Ever see an nice looking salad on a menu, order it, and find out later to was like 2,000 calories? Yikes!

definitely, we went to applebee's a lot and there is very little there that they have that does not have hidden calories and carbs. even the broccoli. hamberger patty is safe. depends on which steak you get if that is safe. ruby Tuesday has some nice fish dishes that are safe. but yes I totally get where you are coming from Bluefront

I love Seasons52. My husbands office always has the holiday party there.

I've never been there before, Cstella1, but the menu looks great! Some nice low-cal options and the prices are right :) Apparently they have quite a few locations across the country.

BlueFront, about the only way you can order a salad in a restaurant is dry. You can ask for the dressing on the side, but sometimes the salads themselves have cripsy won tons, different cheeses, etc. It's a minefield! I just looked at my graph today and my fat "pie" is enormous. Cheese, an egg, hummus... all healthy options, but full of fat. Oh, and pepperoni :)
