sdmyers71's Journal, 31 July 2012

Hopefully this will be the first day of the rest of my life. I am 41 and have been overweight since as long as I can remember. I am now at my heaviest ever. My doctor told me about this site after my visit with her yesterday. Hopefully the added support here from those that are going through the same thing I am and battling the same demon will help me to make this lifestyle change.

I am so tired, litterally, of being so big. I have been able to deceive myself into beliving I am not as big as I really am. Of course going to the doctor kind of slaps you back into reality. I am tired of being ashamed of what I look like and of all the medical problems I have. I see it in the look of every doctor and person that finds out about all my conditions - that look of judgement for being so overweight.

I do not want to feel this way anymore. I want to feel better about myself and I want to live the healthiest life I can. This is no longer living to me.

I remember that feeling. After losing about 45 lbs. I quit paying attention and put 20 back on. Now I have refocused after hating to see my profile in the mirror. One big step for me was weighing in every day and matching up the weight change to my calorie intake. I realized, that for my activity level, that 1800 calories was the intake that allowed me to change my body and gradually lose weight. It was a big first step. A lot of research and learning from there has gotten me to where I am today. I couldn't easily answer the question that I kept getting asked, "What's your secret?" So I set up JohnsMind.com to answer it. Everything I am doing is laid out there and anyone can tailor it to their own lifestyle. Take a peek at it when you have time. Being honest with myself and counting every calorie is where it all began.
