week19day3 Pregnancy: i didn't do housework yesterday. i had ho substitute teach, and then had a migraine. I have beta Thalassemia minor, which means my blood cells are smaller than normal and never have normal hemoglobin level. 8 weeks of pregnancy, they were too small and too low even for beta thalassemia minor standards so, i started taking iron Fe 65mg with vit c. Well, day 5 after starting it, i had a severe migraine. then started taking it every other day. Now 11 weeks laters, this is day 2 of yesterday's migraine.. i guess ill try every 2 days of taking iron. Im not supposed to take iron because my body generally doesnt do anything with it... so, in another 9 weeks we will see if igh makes a difference with MCV and hemoglobin levels.

I'm sorry to hear that Dazey migraines are so debilitating I take two different medications to prevent mine as well as a seizure medication. I hope that it dissipates soon I've also been working on a bad headache today I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a migraine though. although I think mine may be caused by dehydration I've been having some issues getting water in where I've been trying to teach this new hire a lot of talking not a lot of time to drink during work hours kind of puts me off my game, good luck today!

Daisy don’t assume this is a migraine. The headache may be directly related to your blood count and the anemia. Can I assume you have not required a blood transfusion for your thalassemia before? Do you see yourself as being knowledgeable about your disease process? Have you reported the headache to whichever doctor is managing your thalassemia during your pregnancy? If not please contact them and let them know Incase your treatment plan needs to be altered. Can I also assume that you know that this is a hereditary genetic issue.?

Kenna- i can assume its a migraine! As a gluten intolerant person i know what they are. Its not thalassemia major, which requires said blood transfusion. Its minor. Yes i know its genetic; i got this from my full-blooded Italian mother. To which is passed to my (soon to be) middle child, who also has beta Thalassemia with anemia. Yes i communicate with my doctor. I used to be a cna, which is how i discovered my beta Thalassemia when studying in college. So yes i am knowledgeable in this. Thanks for asking!

Lots of water might help, or lots of warm tea. Taking iron always made me dehydrated. Hope it gets better, headaches are the worst.

I didn't know anemia could cause problems with headaches. According to my blood test I have extreme anemia I wonder if that causes some of my issues with my migraines I'll have to bring that up to my MS doctor at my next appointment. I really wish that my doctors were more approachable they're the only ones available for my conditions in the state but sometimes it's a little hard to understand them as English is not their first language and my MS Doctor likes to tell stories to get his points across which makes it somewhat hard to understand as well. In addition I sometimes have a hard time getting my point across and having myself heard if that makes sense even though I feel that my points are valid and have merit. I try to emphasize my points by back them up with evidence both in scientific nature as well as my own experiences but I often feel dismissed. In addition although I often have will have blood tests, MRIs, and other tests done but my doctors don't discuss the results of these tests with me. I always have to research my mychart results and then Google what those results are or ask my friends who are ER doctors/pharmacists/other medical professional fields for input on what the results actually mean. Which in my opinion is not the best way to get information on one's conditions. I would much prefer having the doctor explain these results to me and the more dedicated way so that I feel more comfortable on what was going on. For example I didn't even know my blood test revealed that I was extremely anemic until I checked the results of my blood test and saw that I was in the very low results there's been several other results that I've noticed that were in more negative categories for example my kidneys are not functioning as well as they should be which of course is the result of my immune suppressant it is a possibility that it can tank my kidneys but I would like the doctor to discuss that they are not doing as well as they could be. For example right before this particular blood test I had recently drink so I do not believe that that was much of a concern but I would have liked the doctor at least to have brought it up and asked had I drank or was there some other reason, but he didn't.mention any thing from the blood test which concerned me thing from the blood test which concerned me

Hang in there, Daze!! I had hideous migraines during my first and second trimester, but they were hormones-related. I didn’t get relief until I had lidocaine injected into my scalp. Worth it!

I recently read an article about a major scientific study that showed women have far better results if they are being treated by a female doctor. I apologies I don't remember the exact statistics. But it might be something to keep in mind if there is anything you can do about it.

I firmly believe that I get better results from female doctors, and choose them whenever possible. Especially for my PCP. In my opinion it just makes sense.

Yippee- i only choose female doctors... My childhood doc was male, he went to prison for some wrong things, so no male doctors for me.

Mami- by the Gods, i had na clue that was a thing!! I also get chiropractic adjustments and helps tremendously when muscles are an issue!

Leah- sounds like a new doctor would be worthe your time...you wont be able to get care you need if he dismisses you and you have to plead your case to get consideration. That is rough. This is why i left my first doctor after we moved away from Illinois. She acted like i know nothing.

The problem is that there's not another set of my doctors within the state and the nearest doctors that could treat me would be in Knoxville, Tennessee which will be a very large hardship for me to actually visit. On average a lot of my doctors my MS doctor, optio- neurologist, and rheumatologist that I'm visiting between 3-6 months depending on my health currently and we just don't have the money or ability to make a 5-hour journey one way to visit the doctor particularly not when you consider that we would have to take three small children on such a journey with us each time on a school day. In addition all of those doctors would also be male I'm afraid the male female part of the equation is just not a choice. I do sometimes worry about not being heard though that it's affecting my medical care. I was a little irritated last time I went to the doctor because I was told that I was outright wrong about what possibly could be going on. I have been concerned that I've been having whiteouts due to the symptoms when low blood pressure due to medication complications. My mother has a similar issue with her blood pressure bottoming out due to medication complications. I typically will drink expressos with four shots before going up to the doctor it's by Norm in the mornings anyways and then they check my blood pressure when I'm in the office. My blood pressure is normally nearly perfect for a 25-year-old which sounds great. Until you consider that I'm 38 and just taking four shots of expresso and three of my medications are supposed to cause high blood pressure. I asked the doctor considering all of these factors if it was then possible if I then perhaps had low blood pressure and that all of these factors were masking the low blood pressure and he said no it was impossible that I could ever have low blood pressure because my medications cause high blood pressure. And then I told him well if I was drinking espresso prior to the blood test having results for blood pressure and had results that should have been wonderful for 25-year-old then shouldn't that presuppose that there was something else going on but he assured me that that was not possible which concerns me when you consider I have every symptom of low blood pressure and a whiteout when I do not have enough food throughout the day. I bought a blood pressure machine but he had to have not had time to utilize it at work to see if I blood pressure is truly proud of me out. This of course is my fault I need to take more time to care for myself but that of course is difficult as a people pleaser I do have a tendency to conform to the needs of business and to perform under pressure. It is both a perk and a curse of mind..
