SherryeB's Journal, 17 January 2021

I had a comment on a food post a couple of days ago that they wished they could block the food porn 😁 It was a pic of linguini with sauce on it. In reality the sauce was full of good stuff....chopped sweet peppers, onion, garlic, some fresh basil, tomatoes....I also added half a lb. of ground beef and a chopped Italian sausage that I found in the fridge. There was enough for 2 generous servings for Hubby & I with a little left over.

I like to see photos of what others are eating on their weight loss/ maintenance journey. Some are meals adapted to be lower in calories & some are yummy looking "regular" food. Because yes, you can eat regular food & lose weight.

I scrolled back through my daily logs of my weight & in the months since I hit my goal the beginning of March 2020, the most I went over was 2 lbs. Now it is possible I went a little higher because there were a few times I wasn't able to weigh in because I was away from home & my scales.

I know from past experience....this ain't my first rodeo 😀, I could easily gain back every lb. I lost. But, for now I choose to eat foods I enjoy, take breaks for holiday meals & vacations....all while remembering I'm trying to stay healthy. That means tracking what I eat....every yummy bite... and using moderation. I also try to get exercise...if only a walk in the neighborhood most days.

Today is another chilly day with a mix of sun & clouds. I am missing being out in my gardens everyday. I have continued to putter around the house putting it back in order. There are still some signs of holiday decor....lights on the mantel & the alpine trees in the corner. Hubby has commented a few times that Christmas is over 😏 but It's nice to see the twinkling in the evening as it starts to get dark. Yesterday, I hauled my palm tree back downstairs into the dining room & a couple of indoor plants. They reside in the corner in front of the window when the Christmas tree isn't there.

Porkchops from the rack I cooked for New Years are defrosting for dinner. Meanwhile, guess I'll grab my book & enjoy the fire in the fireplace...

Sounds like you know exactly what to do. I still have my white lights. I'll keep them for a bit to get through the dark winter.

You are much nicer and more patient about comments like that than I would be, Sherry. I have little tolerance for people spreading their own food phobia or lecturing people about what's healthy and clean, whether they should have that many carbs, whether they should have sweeteners, or how much they are eating. Unless I've asked for advice, I don't want randos telling me what's healthy.

DP, I think I know what to do. Sometimes I amaze myself that I've actually managed to do it for as long as I have. In the past I've gotten tired of logging in my food & slowly regressed to making more bad choices than good. Logging keeps me on track. Even on days I eat more than I should, I'm well aware of it 😏 Maybe there will come a time I can trust myself to not log & still stay on track. For now I'll do what seems to be working.

I love the pics. It’s real. It’s maintainable. They also cause me to work in my own rather than existing on frozen foods or similar.

Laughing, I have gotten irritated at comments before. I try to take it in stride & not let it get to me. I'm just telling my story & what works for me. If Keto, being a vegetarian or something else is the path to someone's weight loss I wish them well. We all have to find what works best for ourselves. The bottom line is it takes work...there is no secret formula that magically makes you thin.

Kat, I'm happy you enjoy my pics! I've been one of those annoying people that posts food pics on Facebook 🙄 for years. I still do sometimes, but I put more on FS. I think it has helped me for this past year to come up with meals that are tasty & still healthy by sharing.

Yes, it's better to dismiss comments than get angry about them. I'm still very "triggered" by some diet, health and nutrition myths. Whatever we choose, there is some form of restriction.

That's unfortunate that someone made a negative comment. I guess that person must feel really weak when it comes to their diet. Hopefully in time they will come to realize that losing weight doesn't mean you have to starve or go to extremes and eliminate everything you love to eat. I also agree with LC that it's annoying when others scold. I find that some of them haven't lost much weight at all so it's kind of ironic they think they can tell you not to eat certain things. Some people have certain health considerations that bad advice can harm so it's great if people want to share but everyone is not the same. Those of us who've been having success know those extreme diets aren't sustainable and set you up for failure. Plus when you're on maintenance you get to eat more! I'm really looking forward to that day!!! I'll probably have to track forever myself. Congrats Sherry on keeping your weight down and knowing when you need to reign it in! You are an inspiration to us all and your food is some of the best I've seen out here!!!
