I am so ANGRY at my body right now. Why!? WHY? Is my left ankle giving out on me? Apparently, I sprained it again. I'm back in my ankle brace and taking it easy, but this is only prolonging my weight loss journey.
I am stretching, I am icing, I have low impact days... Why do I keep on reinjuring my ankle!? I'm 25 years old, I don't think this is normal. Or is it? I don't know.
I am so mad! Chair cardio doesn't get my heart going like actually running. I love running and I am so frustrated that I can't do it now.

I sprained my ankle exactly a month ago today... I'm still determined to lose weight. I'm still eating healthy and I'm still going to find different ways to lose weight without using my legs, but I am not happy about it.

Have you gone to a dr to make sure there is nothing else wrong with your ankle?

I am sorry to read about your ankle! Did you see a doctor? Also, do you buy your shoes in a special running store? Do you add recovery proteins in you diet? I am always afraid of hurting my ankle so I will buy the higher end quality running shoes. I had a knee that was bothering me but now that I am taking collagen supplement I don’t feel the pain anymore.

I have one ankle that has given me problems and finally checked in with a Ortho doc. What he found was since my right leg is 5/8 inch shorter than left (not unusual for most people) that I would need to get orthotics to even out my gait and do strengthening exercises on a continuous basis. Once you have damage it takes longer than we think to rebuild strength. I had a few PT appts to learn exercises and am able to do them myself for years now. Silkian is right, the right shoes are worth the money they save in injury prevention! If you have access to a running store that can check your gait go in and see what they say.

I did not go to the doctor yet for this sprain, but for the last one I did. It was a low grade sprain, but even still I took care of it. Since I've been running, I've been eating more protein and healthy fats to keep me going. After a work out, I elevate my leg and ice it. Maybe I should go see the doctor... just makes me nervous. Thanks ladies!

Raineybird, wow I didn't know that was a thing. Maybe I should really get it checked out. It could very well be my shoes.

Meepers, you may need to work on strengthening it once you've healed. These guys are a little dorky, but their info is solid on lots of topics. Bob and Brad on YouTube, search ankle exercises for more. https://youtu.be/hEmLp6iQB7M

This happened to me also after not running for a while. So frustrating! Luckily I have a bike and that gets my heart going with low impact. Plus it tones legs 😉 definitely invest in some good running shoes, that matters! I found out the hard way how important your shoes are, they should be designed for your specific activity (running) and always do ankle rotations before hand. Hope you heal quickly, good luck! 💛

I was very athletic/active well in to my 30s BUT I was ALWAYS spraining my ankles! My dad would always say "you have weak ankles, u need to strengthen them".

When I played tennis their was a year when I was playing in USTA competitions and I kept re-injuring my ankle. Each time it gets weaker and weaker especially if you don't give it time to heal. One time I was even at a sectional's match and it went completely over and I went down to the ground. That was super embarrassing and I tried to ice it but you only have a certain amount of time in competition so I ended up having to forfeit the match. After that I got a shoe like support that went inside your tennis shoe. I wore that for a couple years because I was so paranoid of spraining my ankle again. It worked and I never sprained it after that. As you know it hurts like hell. Anyway, I probably still have that support somewhere. If I come across it I will send you a picture. I hope you are able to get back to running soon. Take care.

I don't live near anything, but I'm going to see a doctor to see what kind of shoe I should be wearing. I'll also see if there are shops "nearby" so that I can check it out. I have dumb, Hobbit feet so I want to be able to try a few pairs on. 😅 Thank you to those who shared stories. It's good to know that I'm not the only one. I'm feeling a bit discouraged, but of course I'll keep going. I'm so close to my first goal.

Katsolo, thank you for the YouTube video. I'll be trying it out!

For sure check with a doctor. There are some that specialize on sports injuries. Also a good running store would be able to tell you a lot about what you would need for shoes... if one is open in your area. And make sure you give it time to heal. Sorry about that. I have had to take injury breaks from running and it is painful to wait it out

I've sprained my ankles so many times, it's ridiculous. Still doing it and I'm in my 40's. I've seen many Drs, specialists, and my cousin is an orthopedic surgeon who gives me free advice. There's no fix other than trying to strengthen the muscles around all those loosey goosey ligaments. Ask a Dr or PT for exercises.

There is other cardio options! Weight lifting will actually build muscle and burn more fat than cardio. You can do it

I do not know what the case is for Meeper HCB but if you are bit by the running bug... it is hard not to want to run

I’m with Silkian on the good shoes and the collagen supplements. also Do you have access to a swimming pool?

ive heard that collagen powder really helps people struggling with joint and knee issues. it costs about $40 per tub (kinda pricy) but people swear by it to get their bodies back in action after what youve been through

you can learn to be a bit kinder to your body, chair cardio and yoga and stretching will heve to do, take care, you do NOT want to be 50 with a permanent injury, beleive me you don't. massage the ankle, love it, pamper yourself, and eat better food, but do NOT create a permanent injury by forcing it. good luck sweetie we all support you

I sprained my knee last year and couldn't walk. I had purchased a brace just to get me to the chiropractor. She works with Dallas Cowboys and Rangers. She used this amazing stretch tape to brace my knee when I waked. It is the black tape you see on athletes. I made an X with 2 pieces right below my knee cap and then one horizontally under the knee cap also. It stayed on 5 days even through showering. Kinesiology Tape. It worked and since I had pulled some ligaments I work it the whole time. When my daughter twisted her ankle we used it to tape it up for about 2 weeks. And any time she had pain she will still use an application for 5 day. Read about it.

Running is not a very good exercise, especially if you are carrying extras. It will damage your knees and ankles. I have done it many times. You are also losing in a rapid phase, which is I prefer to do myself but it's not advised. Meaning, you need to be extra careful when exercising since body is not yet adjusted to your current weight. Try cycling if you can. Unfortunately, injury is one of many obstacles we face during weight loss
