Some food for thought for your brain to digest:

Along with yesterday's theme of "partial-digestion", let's discuss processed foods...

Sure, there are additives and chemical preservatives in some and others fortify with vitamins and minerals to the benefit or detriment of our health in large quantities.

Aside from health, the reason processed foods are easy to (over)eat is most are partially digested - not by stomach acids, but compressed into smaller bits so you can fit more into your belly!

It's why there is so much sugar - like 7-10 oranges pressed - in a glass of OJ... and none of the fiber you'd get from the whole fruit.

Whey protein powder is a powerhouse and is super fast-acting source of protein because it's been micronized into a powder form, so virtually no churning to extract nutrients is necessary.

Ground beef saves your stomach some digestive effort too. It's why a whole cut of meat will have the highest TEF (thermic effect of food - energy/calories burned during digestion)... because it's a lot of work for your system to break down.

And flours... whoa boy! We can eat a lot of that stuff, right? Imagine: instead of eating a regular donut, you ate the ingredients unprocessed... a handful of uncracked wheat (lots of insoluble fiber there), some milkfat, munch on a whole bunch of sugar cane stalks... it starts becoming less appealing by the nanosecond!

Science and technology has evolved to allow us to experience foods never before known or conceived. In the wrong hands, they become a mortal enemy to weight loss.

The foods themselves we consider "snacks" due to their size are simply "mini-meals". There's a lot of energy in that candy bar and it won't keep you full very long.

Everyone knows I love my processed foods, but I use them wisely.

They aren't evil by their nature... they are just easily abused, so eat them responsibly and sparingly if you have issues with control to stay on track with your progress!

I don’t really see an energy increase after eating a candy bar. I’ll study this more extensively 😉.

I don’t eat breakfast OR get the same amount of sleep lol. Hot flashes wake me up all the time. I’ll try it with lunch :).
