"These are the times that try men's souls; the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."
Thomas Paine

Those few of us here of my generation have seen Presidential assassinations and the assassinations of civic leaders, cities burning, segregation and integration, the Civil Rights Movement and the murders that accompanied that movement, race riots and Vietnam War riots. And this week we witnessed an attempted coup that, if successful, could have ended our Democratic form of Government. Just because someone says something repeatedly does not make it so. Search out the truth and back it up with VERIFIABLE data.

I am having a difficult time focussing on healthy eating right now, sorry.

Shirfleur I'm a little younger than you but old enough to witness the events of which you wrote. I have also been thinking about many of the events you mentioned that has occurred during our lifetimes. I share many of the same sentiments as many of you. The unsuccessful coup attempt hurt my faith in our country and to think that any American would attack the Capital building of our democracy was inconceivable. I'm encouraged that our system of government and democracy has prevailed and believe that justice will be done. Once again America is experiencing growing pains as we build a more perfect union...

My apologies to anyone I may have offended with my post today. When I posted it this morning, I was not thinking about politics, I was thinking, with great sorrow, of all of the tragic events that have occurred in our beloved country during my lifetime. You are correct, this site is not the place for political or religious discussion. We are all here together to support each other in our efforts to live a healthier life. And I would not have gotten to where I am today without your support and encouragement. Please forgive me, I love you all.

Nothing to forgive Shir! I never thought you were trying to politicize things! I agree with those who said we discuss things that affect our mental health, which affects our weightloss.

Shirfleur your post was entirely appropriate. No need to apologize about what you post, ever. 🌺

Politics are a part of life. Myopic thinking - "this is a health site" - makes us miss the point completely. Everything in life, including a chaotic political environment, has an impact on our health. Her post wasn't even partisan. When moderators or guidelines discouraged political commentary, they usually mean making explicit comments about specific candidates or parties.

Also, why waste your time commenting on journal entries that aren't relevant to your goals or interests? Seems like a strange and wasteful way to spend your time.

These are very trying days for so many reason. Our world has been rocked this last week, month, year... It is so hard to even think of what we put in our mouths or how much we work out as even important when there is so much distress and worry about other things. But, our decision personally in how we live day to day are important and impact us. Not sure that makes sense, I just know thst when everything in life is out of control nothing is in control, but getting one or two things in line makes everything a little better. Love you so much, my friend! You are the most wonderful blessing! ❤️

You don't ever need to apologize for anything on your journal. It is Your journal. Anyone else should understand it's a privelige to read someone else's journal. Besides, it was a great post. You have had excellent positive comments regarding it. Ignore the couple who made negative comments. We all know you didn't mean to offend anyone a

I try to ignore Media-Political-Social babble-talk. ADHD helps. The information available to me (and probably to most U.S. non-urbanites) comes from TV, Social, and/or Political Media. And that information is NOT the result, conclusion, or insight of objective research. (In fact, objective research is typically classified as unproductive--it takes too much time and effort.)

Good to know I’m not alone in these thoughts. Prayers for our country and all of us who call it home.

Shir 🌻🌈😊 This is your journal, no apologies needed. Last week’s events at the Capitol were awful. For you to not voice , feel or acknowledge the effect on you is inhuman. Everyone is feeling the effect in sure. Nerves are a wreck in my house. Binge eating / nail biting has happened too. The state of our country is sad and it’s awful to think 50% of our country is spewing hate. Anyway sending healing, love, & peace. Have a great weekend!!! 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

Turn off the news. It's the healthiest thing you can do. *

My sweet friend, it is your journal💛 The only reason I say I don’t discuss politics is because I have seen it tear family and friends apart and it’s 😞 sad. I believe we should be able to have different beliefs and still be able to love and respect each other. ❤️❤️ Maybe if I had journaled more instead of being anxiety stricken, I would be in a different place right now. I know I would be. I always believed in journaling whatever I want, feel. How we are feeling directly correlates with why we are here. Last Wednesday was awful. I condemn how it turned out, but that wasn’t a reflection on the 99% of others who were there, or are conservative and were not there. This is such hard times for all of us. Last Wednesday, my daughter stormed out of our house after breaking a plate, because she doesn’t share our beliefs. She hasn’t come back. As I’m telling you this I’m crying. Screw the plate, my heart is broken. I miss her 😞😢 She is young and clearly very passionate in her beliefs, but she was also wrong for acting the way she did and in front of her brothers. I don’t judge friends or family based on politics. You journal away my friend!! I 🙏 for peace and healing for all. Lots of love and hugs ❤️❤️❤️💛💜💚

So sorry about your daughter Jc, I was that daughter. I fought with my father and spoiled many family meals; left the table and stormed out of the room. We are so very passionate about our beliefs when we are young. I hope you can work things out. My younger son and I see things differently politically, but we have learned to talk about them and to listen to each other with respect. Perhaps in time you will be able to do this he same.
