melissatwa's Journal, 20 August 2020

This week I am babysitting this girl for a friend who is on vacation. It kind of is "babysitting," since this pretty mare will be having a baby come spring. :)

This rose bush is growing crazy tall! That cluster of blooms is about a foot above my head now!

Oh how fun! I have no experience with horses but I think they are beautiful animals! Enjoy :)

Wow, she is beautiful! 💖 And the color of those roses is stunning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rose bush that tall before. Your plants must all be very happy and well-nourished. Congrats on the drop as well, Melissa! Enjoy your week with the mama-to-be.

Oh I wish, Atriel!! I'd happily exchange time with this girl for an opportunity to visit! 😁 Thank you, Groatmeal, she is a sweetheart! NewnameMM, thanks! I do love this bush! It just wants to take over my world. It is a good thing I planted it right on the corner of the rose garden so it has room to expand and grow!!!

And just because it is fun to know these things... I think anyway... This is Roxy! She is kind of special, because she is a National Reining Horse Association champion! She had to retire last season because of a tendon injury, which has not completly healed. Although she can no longer compete, her unborn foal is already registered to be in the 3 year old futurity in Oklahoma. Roxy is a dream to ride, and we hope she will fully recover enough that I will ride her a lot more in the future.

Roxy is beautiful and has pretty impressive credentials! Will you get to see her goal when it's born?

Thanks, rcguenth and HCB! Carol, horses were my life for a very long time. Riding, training, teaching, showing. I ride infrequently now and don't own. Life became 5 kids! But, they are older now, so I have reconnected with old friends and... We will see what happens. 😊 This was one of the reasons I so badly needed to lose the weight and get fit. Riding when fat and unstable... A very bad idea! 😁

Horses are my favorite animal.

Yes, for sure, atriel! She is spending her "maternity leave" just over a mile from my house! 😁 I expect I'll see her foal within minutes of birth... Unless it is the middle of the night!

So jellie. I love riding but it's been years and I am admitted total amateur. Enjoy babysitting.

My grandmother had Arabians and I have always just loved horses! There's a Friesian Rescue out here that I've been dying to go to.

Me too, rcguenth! Thanks, Katsolo! And hey, since you are a numbers girl!!! 😁 How is this? This mid-size horse eats 18 pounds of hay per day, about a pound and a half of grain, drinks an unknown amount of water (unknown to me) and produces an ENTIRE wheel barrow arrow load of poo! "fun" indeed! 😁

aww, Awesomeness.

Friesians are stunning creatures!!! I hope you get to visit! The first horse I ever had full and complete use and care for was a sweet little grey Arab. Rebel became my dearest friend when I was 11! We had many good times. I'd pack a lunch and we would disappear for the day. He liked flour tortillas with peanut butter and jam! They were the perfect travel food because they didn't get squished in my pack. I'd have to bring two so I could share! Mostly I always rode bareback in those days.

I know enough from 4H and horse friends that I never pressed for a horse of my own after that summer. But just think how many calories you're burning cleaning up and mucking stalls.

She’s beautiful! My pony when I was a kid once ate the top half of a whole loaf of bread while I’m trail ride! We learned quickly not to tie him to the back of a wagon haha. My horse as an older kiddo loved all food. He wouldn’t eat it out of a sack in a wagon but if I had any he would reach around to get it even if I was riding him. Lots of stumbles as he kept walking and trying to get my sandwich or chips! He even wanted my coke until the bubbles got in his nose. The ones we have now are picky. They want to sniff and lick everything but not eat it. 🙄 They love apple flavored treats but refuse actual apples! Silly things.
