It's stuff like this that's always turned me off about processed foods more than the sugars.

It's the funky oils and how they're processed and how they mutate human body cells.

Our bodies see these mutated fats and think they're regular fats, so it's like building muscle or storing them as "normal"... virtually creating a body that is a house of cards...

I'm not all about fear mongering, but this has always been in the back of my mind.

I use coconut oil or animal fat when heat is involved and olive oil for when heat isn't (like salad dressings). On rare occasions I'll saute in butter, but only on very low heat.

The only oils in my house are coconut oil, animal fat, butter, and olive oil. I've been doing that for well over a decade.

Only olive oil in my kitchen.... and some Irish organic butter in the fridge. Coconut oil is a beauty product used to remove mascara and smooth wrinkes not to be ingested. What is glyphosate ?

My hubby won't eat roasted peanuts due to the chemical change in the oils once they are heated. He will only eat raw nuts at this point.

Mercola? I thought I remembered that name being someone to stay away from. I'll see if I can find out why.

He's a quack, D, but on this point he's right. Even a broken clock ...

Yeah, transfats. I was going to say, this article is on point and he even has references for it. I prefer to stay away from his site or help him get clicks though.

Right on. The body cannot use this sort of fat for power, so it get stored. Makes home cooking near a must for pleasant and efficient fat loss

Be very skeptical of anything coming from Mercola. This site claims to want to promote health. In general, the website denigrates one product and tells you of its evils while at the same time promoting the alternative product Mercola is selling on its website. Any info you get off Mercola, please check its veracity by actually reading scientific papers about the subject yourself.

Gogogirl, Coconut oil has been used for cooking for centuries, in India and other South Asian countries. It is however, high in saturated fats. Regarding EVOO, here is a link that says EVOO is OK-- https://www.aboutoliveoil.org/is-it-safe-to-cook-with-extra-virgin-olive-oil

hbfgvv...thank you. i have a jar of it in my pantry but prefer not to use it. I also rarely use butter and only at times like with garlic bread where I do half evoo and half butter. one stick of irish kerrygold lasts me 6 months.LOL. I try stay away from adding saturated fats.

Okay, I read the article and my brain started hurting. How does this relate to Soy Milk? And did I miss the memo on coconut oil being bad? I use it in my coffee (well, up until last week because I'm adjusting my woe a bit) it used to be ranked right up as a miracle oil.

As for processed food, if there is more than one word I cannot pronounce, I pass. Sorry Clark Griswold.

@FullaBella.... coconut oil is a solid oil meaning it's a saturated fat and harder to absorb. A new study came out saying saturated fats may not be as harmful but this study has been debated and this hypothesis is evolving.
