SoCalPam's Journal, 14 September 2018

I had an MRI on my left knee performed this morning and the tech gave me a disc with the images. I'm having fun looking at images of MRIs of other people's knees so I can try and figure out what's wrong with me. I suspect a torn meniscus, but the images are so unfamiliar to me that I could be pregnant in that knee for all I know.

You guys are the best. A friend of mine, who is a PT looked at the images and thinks it's a torn meniscus and further clarified it as lateral or something. I'll find out for sure when I meet with my doc next week. I feel a little validated about the pain, though! And I have a HUGE f-off (sorry/not sorry) to two of my friends who have been intentional to the point of unfriending about getting me into CrossFit. I'm like, "I HAVE INTENSE KNEE PAIN." One said, "Oh, you work through it." Nope, not even a little bit, nope, no way, uh uh.

They don’t sound like very good friends :/. Although I can see their side too. I don’t ‘know’ you of course but they may think you are like a friend of mine. She always wants to do stuff and says about working out but when it comes down to it she just wants to wear cute workout clothes and not work out lol. In her defense she broke her neck then her back starting about 2 years ago or so. Says she just can’t do anything now u til she has another surgery. Yet she can lift heavy bags of pet food, garden and other things she enjoys. Yet can’t lift two 3# weights or walk on a treadmill (she walks her neighborhood talking to her neighbors). Perhaps your friends thought you were like her. But again, if so then they still don’t sound like good friends or they’d know you were really in pain. Crossfit isn’t like taking a stroll lol.

My uncle is a radiologist, I can send him this picture and he may have a better idea of what may be the problem if that would help you at all!

good deal, it will be nice to know what is actually going on and what they can do to help heal it

Aw, thank you britt.michelle; I'll be seeing the doctor on Tuesday and I can wait. I appreciate the offer, though.

Best wishes of healing & rehabbing your knee. You were correct not doing cross fit with your knee pain. You could have caused further damage. 👍

I’ve been a CT tech for 20 + yrs. MR’s are trickier to read. I’m not a radiologist, but you might have “bone on bone” going on here. You know, the distal femur banging on the proximal tibia every time you take a step. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Let us know what the doc says!

A friend of mine has severe knee pain, in both knees, from bone on bone rubbing together. Has fought getting it repaired for years. Gained about 60 lbs which, of course, made pain worse. She, like you, is finally on the road to knee surgery, both knees, first one in October. One step at a time, pun intended, I am so happy for her and you too. You're both going to be fine.🚶‍♀️Your 'friends' better pray they never have knee troubles.

But I’m sorry ur in pain

Laugh away... I prefer to see the humor in everything. I've lost 20 pounds, which has helped reduce some pressure. I've reduced my wheat and sugar consumption, which has reduced inflammation. I'm doing MUCH better than I was when my knee originally was injured (while walking the dog; not doing anything exciting or treacherous). There is definitely bone-on-bone stuff going on, according to the reading given by the radiologist. The technical term for "bone spur" was mentioned and a few other things. This is new and uncharted territory for me, but I'm ready to be 100%.
